Job Description

The Community Engagement Worker assists individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred to, The Salvation Army. This position also provides support to the Food Bank Program and other programs provided by the Community and Family service.MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:

  • Completion of a Community College Certificate in business or work equivalent
  • Current Safe Food Handling and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification is required
  • First Aidamp; CPR Certification would be an asset
MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS: The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including experience working with multi-barriered persons.
  • Must have strong computer skills and experience, experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid NS Driver #39;s License, own vehicle and insurance, provide an original copy of current driver #39;s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Provide an original copy of a background check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class: Community and Family Services:
  • Under the direction of the Officer(s), assist with new and existing program and service provisions in the community.
  • Organize and supervise ordering and/or receipt of food donations, recording, tidiness and safety of all areas.
  • Organize and help maintain the cleanliness of all areas used by the Community and Family Services, and other areas.
  • Conduct initial intake application and screen clients for general emergency assistance, including food, clothing, household needs, referrals etc.
  • Network with referral agencies and/or other community sources of assistance, as required.
Administration:
  • Input data into Link2Feed; complete and submit all statistical reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality and keep accurate participant files and statistical records.
  • Conduct all administrative duties as outlined with due diligence.
  • Follow direction on the compliance and adherence to Operating Policies and Procedures (i.e. gift cards etc.)
Seasonal:
  • Assist with seasonal or special fundraising activities provided by the Community and Family Services i.e. Christmas Hampers, Christmas Kettles, Camp Programs; provide assistance with other program development(s).
  • Supervise and coordinate volunteers for the Christmas Program.
  • Distribute available items and donations to all participants requiring Christmas assistance.
  • Participation at community meetings/client referrals as directed by supervisor.
Health and Safety:
  • Ensure that the Community and Family Services area is tidy in relation to appearance, condition and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
  • Seek out continual education and resources for all areas of responsibilities, specifically regarding COVID-19 requirements as per the local Health Unit.
  • Ensure the safety and comfort of the ministry unit by maintaining cleanliness and food safety etc.
  • Work in compliance with OH amp;S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army #39;s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other position related duties as required.
