Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.What you will doReporting to the Permit Office Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following responsibilities:

  • processing and/or overseeing Special Permit Office requests to operate oversize over-mass vehicles on New Brunswick highways;
  • reviewing permit requests often involves the electronic screening of bridge capacity, construction detours and the application of safe traffic management practices;
  • providing technical support to permit applicants and other stakeholders involved in transportation industry (i.e. NB Power, woodland operators, municipalities, other consultants, etc.).
This is a high request volume position which is a key link in the process for the protection of our highway infrastructure and the travelling public.Work environment:
  • Office location: 440 King Street, Fredericton.
  • Open office layout.
  • Standard hours of work: Monday ¿ Friday.

  • Some travel within the province will be required.

Essential Qualifications:Engineering and Field Level V:
  • Diploma from a recognized two (2) year post-secondary Civil Engineering Technology Program with a minimum of four (4) years #39; related work experience.
  • Candidates must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Class 5 driver #39;s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
If there are no applicants with the above essential qualifications, we may consider applicants with the following qualifications and appoint at a lower classification.Engineering and Field Level IV:
  • Diploma from a recognized two (2) year post-secondary Civil Engineering Technology Program with a minimum of three (3) years #39; related work experience.
  • Candidates must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Class 5 driver #39;s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
Engineering and Field Level III:
  • Diploma from a recognized two (2) year post-secondary Civil Engineering Technology Program with a minimum of two (2) years #39; related work experience.
  • Candidates must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Class 5 driver #39;s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.Written and spoken competence in English and spoken competence in French is required. Please state your language capability.

SALARY:Engineering and Field Level V: $1,785.00 to $2,244.00 bi-weekly (based on a 36 ¼ hour work week).Engineering and Field Level IV: $1,625.00 to $2,039.00 bi-weekly (based on a 36 ¼ hour work week).Engineering and Field Level III: $1,495.00 to $1,878.00 bi-weekly (based on a 36 ¼ hour work week).Providing a safe workplace for all.
