Carries out passive and assisted range of movement activities, and facilitates application of orthosis;Instructs residents in the use of basic mobility aids such as walking sticks. Prepares and applies interventions following instruction from the Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and Recreation Therapist;Facilitates, encourages, and supports residents to participate in a variety of activities and therapeutic programs. Delivers social & recreational programs including arts & crafts, sports, music, woodworking, cooking, gardening and physical exercise as directed; sets up and organizes supplies & equipment; demonstrates techniques; provides assistance and support to encourage success; and documents observations and resident participation;Participates on Community, Neighborhood, and Resident Councils. Attends, and participates in multi-disciplinary care conferences. Participates in program planning and evaluation. Reports changes in residents’ functional capacity, mood or health status to the Program Coordinator. Assists in the implementation of recreation care plans, calendar of activities, program plans, resident progress notes and program attendance statistics;Assists the Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and Recreation Therapist with therapy e.g. moving and handling, bilateral limb movements, two-person gait training and group activity;Performs activities such as escorting/transporting residents, preparing residents for treatment, maintaining files, recording resident progress and dressings related to, but not a part of physical/occupational therapy;Ensures that the area used for therapy-related activities is kept clean and free of clutter. Performs routine cleaning, sanitization and minor routine maintenance of Rehab Equipment that may include, but not limited to: wheelchairs, Broda Chairs, Walkers, falls mats, bed/chair alarms and specialty mattress. Performs periodic checks on equipment used in therapy to confirm it is in proper working condition; Reports any problems to supervisor;Attends in-service education and other professional development opportunities in an effort to keep current with industry best practices and current trends;Respects and promotes the dignity, choices and individuality of each resident by recognizing them as whole individuals with unique cultural, spiritual and psychosocial needs;Completes administrative tasks in support of programming and performs related duties as assigned.To Be Considered:Completion of Grade 12. Graduation from a recognized Therapy Assistant Diploma or equivalent program from a recognized college (Registered with the Post Secondary Education Commission);Experience and/or education working with or delegated tasks for occupational, physio, recreational therapies;Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills;Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team framework; andValid First Aid Certificate (includes CPR B).We thank all applicants for their interest.
