Job Description

Organization:For Ontario school boards that wish to improve efficiencies, decrease their costs, and mitigate the negative impacts of absenteeism, SBCI – a member-owned not-for-profit co-operative – provides expert actuarial, attendance, health and safety, and workers’ compensation consulting services. Through our industry-leading knowledge and collaborative approach, we work to make schools safer, healthier, and more productive.We are currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time permanent Finance Assistant role in our Finance Department.This is a full-time permanent position, 5 days per week, 7 hours per day. Hybrid and remote work opportunities available. Position Summary:Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the Finance Assistant is responsible for the payment and processing of invoices and employee expense reports, issuance and follow up of invoices, and co-ordination of WSIB payments on behalf of School Boards. This position consults with internal and external stakeholders to ensure necessary approval of invoices, co-ordination of WSIB payments and delinquent account follow-up.Key Responsibilities:

  • Process accounts receivable and revenue collection functions, including preparing, issuing, and posting invoices, following up on outstanding payments and recording collection.
  • Post approved invoices and employee expense reports to appropriate G/L account, issue EFT payments weekly and forward to appropriate payee, and file invoices appropriately. Monitor adherence and compliance with finance policies and procedures.
  • Co-ordinate monthly credit card reconciliations, ensuring appropriate receipts are attached to statement, and post journal entry to appropriate G/L accounts.
  • Prepare and issue monthly and annual invoices using a combination of Microsoft Excel and Sage ERP, periodically deposit cheques at the bank, and follow up on delinquent accounts.
  • Monthly posting of cellular charges, payroll, and benefit entries to G/L.
  • Weekly payment of WSIB invoices on behalf of School Boards.
  • General support to the Finance department.
Key Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum Post-Secondary College/University Diploma, Accounting focus preferred
  • Minimum of 1+ years experience in a financial accounting environment
  • Must have a basic understanding of accountingamp; bookkeeping
  • Experience using Sage 300 ERP (or equivalent) an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, specifically with Excel (vlookup, Pivot tables etc.)
  • Ability to analyze transactions and record the appropriate journal entries is critical
  • Takes ownership of duties, working autonomously and with internal stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • High degree of discretion and confidentiality
  • Strong communications skills
  • Bilingual in English and French an asset
