Meadow Lake Tribal Council 8003 Flying Dust Reserve Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan S9X 1T8Phone: (306) 236-5654 Fax: (306) 236-6301LLRC Literacy Consultant Employment OpportunityMLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10. The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations of cultural, economic and political autonomy. As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.

The LLRC Literacy Consultant will support the implementation of the LLRC curriculum, best-practice instructional strategies, and assessment initiatives. This position will use an Indigenous lens to coordinate and support teachers in implementing LLRC Curriculum competencies, strength-based assessment for learning that align with School Success Plans and Land-Based Calendars. This position will develop meaningful and supportive relationships with MLFN schools, to ensure consistency between program supports and MLTC.Specific Roles & Responsibilities
  • Supporting and training of school-based literacy catalysts in various instructional and assessment practices
  • Providing training and support for literacy catalysts in Tier 2 intervention (Levelled Literacy Intervention).
  • Providing classroom support to English Language Arts Teachers (Gr 1-9) in monitoring and supporting the implementation of renewed ELA curriculum.
  • Providing and supporting the MLTC common report card and assessment practices (Gr 1-9)
  • Supporting and training Gr 1-9 teachers on differentiated instruction and assessment in ELA classrooms.
  • Assisting ELA teachers in researching and implementing best practices in the delivery of ELA programs (at MLFN School request).
  • Supporting the reading, writing, assessment for learning practices and other assessment projects as required.
  • Provide High School course development
  • Provide cross-curricular planning supports
  • Assist with MLTC Office of Education initiatives and other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education; a Master’s Degree or commitment to begin studies in a field appropriate to the English Language Arts education.
  • Saskatchewan Professional A Teachers’ Certification or the ability to obtain such standing; and a minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience.
  • Experience in working with First Nations’ Schools & Communities.
  • Willing to travel to the First Nation Communities; work within a team setting and independently.
  • Support land, language, relationship & culture initiatives
  • Knowledge and/or willingness to obtain training to support MLTC’s initiatives including, but not limited to:
o Assessment for Learning Model (triangulation of evidence)
  • Diagnostic Assessments (F&P), Formative Assessments (in-house tracking) and Summative Assessments
