It fuels our innovation and connects us closer to the community we serve.Job DescriptionThe City of Merritt has an opportunity for a Deputy Corporate Officer/ Executive Assistant to join the Corporate Services team in full-time, permanent position.The Deputy Corporate Officer / Executive Assistant is integral to enhancing the productivity of the senior leadership team and supporting the organization to achieve its goals. In this role, you will manage corporate records and confidential information, prepare high-level correspondence and communications, record and transcribe minutes for Council and Committee meetings, compile agenda packages and process files and resolutions. In addition, you will act as the Deputy Corporate Officer for the City of Merritt and perform the functions of s148 of the Community Charter in the absence of the Director of Corporate Services. As the Deputy Corporate Officer / Executive Assistant, you will be organised and focused, and provide clerical support and calendar management to support senior leadership, Mayor and Council and arrange travel and accommodations for conferences and conventions.QualificationsThe ideal candidate possesses a degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field supplemented with course work and progressive administrative experience. A legal assistant with an understanding of local government acts and regulations along with land title records searching may be considered or other equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • A certificate in Local Government Administration or Certified Municipal Clerk qualification is preferreds.
  • Good understanding of the Community Charter and Local Government Act. (Local government nerds who geek out on statutory provisions are positively encouraged).
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Takes responsibility for personal effectiveness, work quality, and timeliness and achieves results with modest oversight.
  • Proficient computer skills; The role will type agendas and minutes using Word, organise databases and Excel spreadsheets, and be willing to work with agenda management software and run Youtube meeting broadcasts. Typing speed of 70 wpm+ ideal.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively when working with individuals and groups.
  • Exercises tact and diplomacy when working with elected officials, staff, the public and others.
  • Builds relationships and solves problems proactively, adapts to the needs of multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Works autonomously to manage time and resources and meet deadlines.
