This role is essential for supporting economic recovery in Merritt as we move toward our vision of a vibrant, progressive and sustainable City.As a member of the Planning and Development Services team, the Economic Development Advisor focuses on developing and implementing strategies to address the key priorities of the Economic Development Action Plan and the City of Merritt’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery initiatives (www.merritt.ca/economic-recovery).The recent flood and COVID-19 pandemic had a severe effect on local businesses and many have struggled to stay open over the last year. Reporting to the Economic Development Manager, the Advisor develops and implements programs to further support the recovery and retention of business in Merritt, now and in the future. As the Economic Development Advisor, you will engage and liaise with the local business community, other stakeholders and governments, to identify supports and propose new initiatives. You will provide advice and present reports to city council and the senior leadership team covering economic and community development initiatives including identification of issues and trends of strategic importance. In this role, you will collaborate with the Economic Development Team and cross-functionally as you lead actions from the Economic Development Committee and seek funding for new initiatives.Qualifications
