It fuels our innovation and connects us closer to the community we serve.Job DescriptionWe have an exciting opportunity for a Community Recovery Advisor to join our Economic Development team on a full-time, one-year term contract basis. This role is essential for supporting economic recovery in Merritt as we move toward our vision of a vibrant, progressive and sustainable City.As a member of the Planning and Development Services team, the Economic Development Advisor focuses on developing and implementing strategies to address the key priorities of the Economic Development Action Plan and the City of Merritt’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery initiatives (www.merritt.ca/economic-recovery).The recent flood and COVID-19 pandemic had a severe effect on local businesses and many have struggled to stay open over the last year. Reporting to the Economic Development Manager, the Advisor develops and implements programs to further support the recovery and retention of business in Merritt, now and in the future. As the Economic Development Advisor, you will engage and liaise with the local business community, other stakeholders and governments, to identify supports and propose new initiatives. You will provide advice and present reports to city council and the senior leadership team covering economic and community development initiatives including identification of issues and trends of strategic importance. In this role, you will collaborate with the Economic Development Team and cross-functionally as you lead actions from the Economic Development Committee and seek funding for new initiatives.Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will possess a degree in economic development, business, public administration, or a related discipline supplemented by experience in economic development and engagement with the local community, preferably in the public sector. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrates understanding of business operations, strategic planning, program development and leadership.
  • A strong communicator with demonstrated success in facilitation, consensus-building and conflict resolution.
  • Possesses excellent research, interpersonal and communication, writing, listening and presentation skills.
  • Adept at analyzing, problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Experienced in public policy analysis and public sector policy issues.
  • Proven ability to develop and grow relationships and identify priorities and solutions.
  • Ability to lead and support an organizational culture that promotes high performance and customer service excellence.
  • Ability to collaborate with others and use tact and diplomacy when faced with diverse perspectives and opinions and skilled at engaging diverse audiences and building partnerships.
  • Ability to multi-task and proactively manage multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced environment.
