JOB POSTING2022-87This Position is open to applicants of all gender identities.The burden of proof of bona fide exceptions rests with the EmployerThis position requires Union membership.Job Title: Family Support Worker - MerrittInterior Community Services (ICS) is a non-profit, accredited, multi service agency providing supported programming to people of all ages. Interior Community Services enriches the lives of individuals and families by providing integrated family support, individual life skills development, and safe, nurturing home environments designed to assist people to live to their potential in the community. At ICS we offer support and services to approximately 1,100 people a day, providing programs from prenatal to seniors. Interior Community Services offers a wide range of prevention and supports to children, youth and family, community living and affordable housing.Job Summary: The Family Support Worker will be supporting clients and families within multiple program settings based on employee’s skillset and fit. Programs could include:The Children and Youth With Support Needs program provides group and individualized services to children and youth with special needs aged 6-18 years, and their families based on individual and family needs. As well they facilitate a weekly 2 hour group session that focuses on enhancing life skills, emotional regulation, and social skills by facilitating activities that foster these skills in a natural and fun way. The Family Support Worker will ensure that parents/caregivers are involved in all of the learning that their child is engaged in and allow parents/caregivers to participate in group sessions to observe, learn, and support their child with new techniques and strategies.The Family Navigation program supports vulnerable families who are pregnant and/or have children 0-6 to access needed intervention and support services. Responsibilities include supporting families to navigate systems, providing resources to community services/resources, providing consultation and group facilitation. This position will work collaboratively with other early childhood community resources to reach out to, and educate families (attending other groups etc.).Healthy Beginnings is a weekly drop-in program for families with children 0-6. Responsibilities include creating early childhood programming, coaching and modeling appropriate parenting, providing childhood development education and community resource referrals. The worker is also responsible for purchasing and preparing snack for the groupThe Youth Justice program provides an alternative-to-custody sentencing option for youth in conflict with the law, and/or supports the re-integration of young offenders in the community following a period in custody. The Youth Justice Worker assists youth to address factors leading to their illegal behaviours and improve their functioning in the community. This role provides support and monitoring to youth in complying with the conditions of their probation order, and assists the Youth Probation team in providing supervision to young offenders in the community.Supervised and Supported Visitation program ensures the safety of children and youth visiting their parents and/or family members while providing coaching and educational advice to appropriately parent and maintain healthy relationships. Provides support in a variety of settings within the community. This is an outreach position which includes the transportation of clients.Job Type: Permanent Part Time or Full TimeLocation: Merritt, BC Hours of Work: Hours may be based on the successful candidate’s availability. Most work will be required to be done between 8:30 am and 6:00 pm Monday to Friday depending on client needs; however, some programs may require availability including evenings and weekends.Salary and Benefits

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Diploma or Degree in human/social services and one year of recent related experience. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current CPR-C, Suicide Awareness (safeTALK) and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (MANDT) training an asset; organization will pay for such training for the right candidate
  • Must have valid Class 5 driver’s license, safe driving record and own reliable vehicle insured with Business Use/ 5 Million liability.
  • Must consent to a Criminal Record Check which will be reimbursed by the organization upon hire
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong communication, documentation and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate good time management
  • Strong knowledge and skills of implementing current research based theories, methods and interventions related to individuals/families dealing with issues of violence, addictions and mental health
  • Ability to assess and identify individual/family strengths, challenges and risks and assist families to determine and achieve goals
  • Strong ability to provide crisis management when required
  • Strong ability to conduct group facilitations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with social workers and community professionals
  • Demonstrated professionalism, ethical decision making and accountability
  • Strong teamwork, collaboration and conflict management skills
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to adhere to the Code of Ethics, confidentiality, policies and values of ICS
  • Must be able to travel to areas identified within our contracts.
