It fuels our innovation and connects us closer to the community we serve.Job DescriptionThe City of Merritt is seeking a Planner to join our Planning and Development Services team. Supporting a vibrant, livable and inclusive community is a key focus of our team and our team is active in laying the groundwork and implementing complex, inter-disciplinary projects that will impact the social, environmental and economic fabric of the community and ultimately shape Merritts growth.Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development Services, the Planner supports both short and long-term planning. As the Planner, you will review and evaluate a high volume of development applications, process Land Titles forms, meet with development applicants, respond to project inquiries and work with GIS mapping service providers. You will develop strategic partnerships across the organization, with clients and consultants and across various levels of government. In addition, you will manage projects, participate in committees and community engagement, conduct research and consult on complex issues to provide recommendations.Qualifications

  • University degree in urban planning, urban design, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in planning, including experience with land development approvals and municipal development processes.
  • Experience with local government land use regulatory and procedural policy and bylaw development is preferred.
  • Membership in the Planning Institute of BC (PIBC) or ability to obtain membership.
  • A registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation is preferred (or ability to obtain it).
  • Land Title services.
  • Proven excellence in creative problem solving and solution implementation
  • An understanding of provincial planning legislation and willingness to learn surrounding local government policies and bylaw requirements
