Job Description

PrincipalMerritt Secondary SchoolThe Nicola-Similkameen School District www.sd58.bc.ca is looking for an exemplary educator who is student focused, committed to equity, and devoted to the pursuit of success for every learner. Merritt Secondary is a grade 8-12 school that operates within the unceded Traditional Territories Nlekepmx and Syilx people. The school enrolls approximately six hundred students and is in Merritt. The school is in the Nicola Valley and is the hub of a highway system that links Kamloops, Kelowna, and the Lower Mainland. Ranching, forestry and tourism are the major industries in the valley. Merritt’s proximity to larger urban centres and its abundant recreational opportunities in all four seasons make it an ideal place to live.Persons interested in working collaboratively to promote a culture that fosters learning and engagement at every level of the district are encouraged to apply for this position. Successful candidates will be experienced, enthusiastic educators with demonstrated and innovative leadership qualities.Currently Merritt Secondary has an Admin team of three individuals: one principal, supported by two vice-principals in a modern facility with all expected instructional services.Applications are invited from educational professionals who have:A demonstrated commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.Active involvement in and demonstrated evidence of working towards Reconciliation specifically in a school setting.A proven ability and commitment to establishing respectful collaborative relationships with learners, parents, staff, community, and Indigenous and Metis Peoples.A focus on instructional leadership, the improvement of student learning, and the development of a positive and collaborative school culture.Experience with secondary school curriculum, instruction, assessment, and programming.An innovative vision for engaging every learner with a goal of increasing success and life opportunities for all students.Worked cooperatively with parents/guardians, teachers, support staff, administrators, and district staff.Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that recognizes the diverse communities that we serve.Proven expertise in Trauma Informed and Compassionate Systems work and a deep understanding and proven practice of positive mental health promotion.Knowledge and experience in Student Support Services, advocacy, and inclusion.Knowledge and experience in using technology to enhance learning.Modeled and supported continuous inquiry and professional learning for self and others.Found opportunities to challenge themselves and grow as a leader in education.A proven commitment to engaging with community beyond the school building.The ideal candidate should possess:Completion of a post-graduate educational leadership program.B.C.
