It fuels our innovation and connects us closer to the community we serve.Job DescriptionThe City of Merritt has an exciting opportunity a Safety Coordinator to join the HR team in a one-year term to cover a leave of absence.Our Safety Coordinator acts as a resource who partners with the joint health and safety committee and across departments to promote a safety culture by supporting continuous improvement of standards, practices, knowledge, habits and commitment. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, you mitigate risks by assisting and leading risk assessments and investigations in the field and preparing and revising safety standards and procedures, job safety analysis and safe work practices. You also conduct research and liaise with consultants as necessary to ensure we hit it out of the park on the technical aspects and best practices.In this role, you maintain the OH&S program and formats. You also monitor the effectiveness of safety programs in the field by reviewing data and compliance with OH&S standards. Your success comes from your self-starter approach, your analytical and critical thinking skills and your ability to learn. You give context to the data that makes the information useful to advise and provide advice and recommendations for continuous improvement.In this role, you will also assist in assessing training needs and coordinate with training providers to arrange suitable training programs and methods, manage records and provide administrative and clerical support for the team.QualificationsYou have graduated with a degree or diploma in OH&S or a related field and are passionate about OH&S. You may be working towards a CRSP, CIH or ROH Designation (or eligible to apply, an asset). You also have your Occupational First Aid Level II or III Certification.Your customer service orientation, strong interpersonal communication, creativity, analytical and critical thinking skills, combined with your understanding of OH&S and comfort with and ability to adapt to new technologies and software, are the foundational skills youll use and build in this exciting role.A valid BC drivers licence and satisfactory driving record are essential.
