Job Description

Position DescriptionTITLE: Economic Analyst (Salary Range $82,500 - $97,500)REPORTS TO: Director, Economic ResearchPOSITION SUMMARYReporting to the Director, Economic Research, the Analyst works with the Director in the delivery of OVMA’s economic services to association members and other associations/organizations that have contracted economic services with OVMA through analysis and communication of OVMA’s extensive economic research and data, to help members and industry understand the changing trends within the veterinary industry.This role also includes building professional relationships with OVMA members to contribute to their feeling of inclusivity, community, and support.OVMA has adopted a hybrid work policy that allows team members flexibility in choosing their work location based on role and responsibilities. Staff are currently primarily working from home, and in the Milton office one day per week. Surveys, Reports and Fee Guides

  • Initiates and develops economics and practice management surveys and oversees the process. This includes the development, distribution, data collection, data editing, data analysis and authoring of reports within established timelines. This includes (but is not limited to) the following reports:
  • Annual Practice Owners Economic Surveys and Reports
  • Associate Compensation and Benefits Surveys
  • New Graduate Surveys and Reports
  • Veterinarians in Government, Industry and Academe Surveys and Reports
  • Locum Survey and Reports
  • Pet Owner Surveys and Reports
  • Large and Small Animal Suggested Fee Guides
  • Help Wanted and Veterinary Activity Index
This position also requires overseeing monthly Practice Dashboards, identifying downward trends and consulting with those Clinic Member practices2. Member Inquiries
  • Embodies OVMA’s member service standard by responding to inquiries from members on issues related to practice or industry economics in a timely and courteous manner. Inquiries may be regarding surveys or other topics of concern, given changing economic or practice issues.
  • Provides advice (practice or career) to members on these topics, if needed.
3. Member Consultations
  • By analyzing all aspects of veterinary practices’ performance (such as financial statements, revenue/expenses benchmarking data, production information collected concerning clients, invoices, scheduling of appointments, staffing, etc.), the Analyst connects one-on-one with association members and practice owners to conduct detailed consultations (in-person or remotely) to discuss the practice’s opportunities or challenges.
4. Communications
  • To promote and share survey results/practice management advice, the Analyst writes articles on relevant topics for OVMA and other partners’ publications, such as Focus magazine, the OVMA website, CVMA’s Canadian Veterinary Journal, and for distribution in OVMA’s e-newsletter.
  • Prepares and presents research results to the OVMA Board of Directors, the Economics Committee and to industry conferences and events, as deemed appropriate.
5. Economics Committee
  • Provides support to OVMA’s Economics Committee, including ensuring that the Committee is regularly consulted on relevant topics, which includes organizing and facilitating meetings or other communications, as required.
  • Writing reports on behalf of the Committee for consideration by the Board of Directors.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
  • A Degree in Business Administration or Economics and/or relevant experience.
    • A Degree and/or experience in Veterinary Medicine is an asset, but not required.
  • The ability to analyze data, produce reports along with editorialized articles that provide different perspectives of the data.
  • 2-5 years’ experience providing economic analysis and/or business management advice, specific to an industry or profession
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and people skills and attention to detail.
  • Someone who can exercise extreme discretion because of the sensitive and economic information they will have knowledge and access to
  • Previous experience exercising a high degree of accuracy and meeting stringent deadlines.
  • Effective and efficient handling of interactions with association members, other veterinarians, their staff and co-workers. In fulfilling their duties, the Manager will be exposed to information which is sensitive and confidential and there is an expectation that extreme discretion will be exercised in this regard.
  • Ability to build trusting, long-term relationships.
  • A collaborative team player with the ability to think both objectively and critically.
  • Exceptional listening, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to speak to multiple audiences.
  • Creative problem solving, organizational and multitasking skills.
  • “G” class driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle as travel can comprise up to 10% of the role.
