Job Description

Youth First Miramichi is a non-profit, charitable organization committed to nurturing positive growth and promoting self-reliance through building relationships, a trauma informed approach and recognizing the individual strengths of children, youth and their families.Youth First Miramichi is currently seeking a program manager. The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills and is comfortable making decisions in a fast paced work environment. The individual must have a solid work ethic, strong interpersonal skills and a clear understanding of, and the ability to articulate the complex needs of children and youth at risk. The candidate must have the ability to support, teach and lead staff.Program Manager RoleWith priority on the individual needs of Youth Care Workers, the Program Manager will ensure the continuous professional development of their team. The successful candidate will have the ability to build mutual trust with their team, recognize strengths as well as identify challenges. Through supervision and evaluation, the Program Manager will assist employees to become successful leaders in their field.They will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a uniform process of quality management. They will oversee the day-to-day operation and management of the assigned home and teams under their responsibility, as well as coordinate with other professionals.The Program Manager is also responsible to ensure the residence and programs meet or exceed requirements indicated in the Child Care Residential Service Standards and Department of Health requirements.Hours of WorkMonday to Friday, After-hours On-call dutiesPrimary Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Program Manager performs a wide range of duties including some or all of the following:

  • Plan the delivery of the overall program and its activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization
  • Develop new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization
  • Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the program
  • Develop a program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the program and to identify areas for improvement
  • Manage employee schedules, payroll and requests for time off
  • Ensure program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization
  • Ensure program activities comply with all relevant legislation and professional standards
  • Develop forms and records to document program activities
  • Oversee the collection and maintenance of records on the clients of the program for statistical purposes according to the confidentiality/privacy policy of the organization
  • In consultation with the Executive Director, recruit, interview and select well-qualified program staff
  • Implement the human resources policies, procedures and practices of the organization
  • Ensure that personnel files for the program are properly maintained and kept confidential
  • Establish and implement a performance management process for all program staff
  • Engage student placements for appropriate program activities using established practices
  • Ensure all staff members receive orientation and appropriate training in accordance with organizational standards
  • Supervise program staff by providing direction, input and feedback
  • Communicate with employees, clients, Social Workers and other stakeholders to solicit input to improve the program
  • Liaise with other managers to ensure the effective and efficient program delivery
  • Write reports on the program for management and funders
  • Ensure the program operates within the approved budget
  • Monitor and approve all budgeted program expenditures
  • Ensure that all financial records for the program are up to date
  • Identify and evaluate therisks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to control the risks
  • Monitor the program activities on a regular basis and conduct an annual evaluation according to the program evaluation framework
  • Report evaluation findings to the Executive Director and recommend changes to enhance the program, as appropriate
Qualification and Skill RequirementsEducation and Experience: · Minimum 2 year College Diploma in Youth Care Work or related field· Ideally, 4 years work experience in a related field.· Experience in program development and management, trauma informed care training will be considered an assetKnowledge, skills and abilities
  • Knowledge of program management
  • Knowledge of client groups and/or issues related to the program area
  • Knowledge and/or experience in business and fundraising will be considered an asset
Proficiency in the use of computers for:
