  • A Valid BC Teaching Certificate
  • Masters Degree in Inclusion and Diversity or Special Education or Post-Graduate Diploma in Special Education
  • Knowledge, training or education in Trauma Informed Practices
  • Knowledge, training or education in Indigenous World Views and Perspectives and Truth and Reconciliation
  • Relevant education and/or experience in the Community Support Worker profession
  • Relevant education and/or experience in the Educational Assistant profession
  • Certification or demonstrated education in Applied Behavioural Analysis or Positive Behavioural Intervention Strategies
  • Recent successful experience placing students into industry related work experience/job placements
  • Recent successful teaching experience working with students in a variety of settings
  • Experience as an instructor working with youth and adult learners facing barriers
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a self-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
  • First Aid Certification sufficient to meet WCB Level 1 standards for workplace employees
  • Instructor’s certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • Knowledge of local industry and community resources in the Fraser Valley area
  • Current knowledge of industry laws, regulations, competency expectations and licensing requirements
  • Practical experience as a Community Support Worker is an asset
  • Practical experience as an Educational Assistant is an asset
  • Prior counselling or comparable experience is an asset
General Duties:
  • To assist in the intake and assessment of potential student candidates
  • To orient and prepare new students for college-level study
  • To provide classroom instruction that is reflective of professional competencies in a continuous intake/modular setting program model as related to the Community Support Worker profession and the Educational Assistant Profession
  • To develop and implement curriculum specific to the changing needs of the profession and the program
  • To conduct regular on-going assessment of student progress leading to a formal evaluation/final letter grade
  • To teach employability skills as they relate to the Community Skills Worker profession and the Educational Assistant profession
  • To provide regular on-going reporting of student attendance and progress
  • To arrange for final formal profession related testing as appropriate
  • To facilitate student success and course/program completion, including being accessible outside of typical classroom hours
  • To identify and place students in profession-related safe and reputable Work Study placements and to follow School District Guidelines and practice for Work Study
  • To serve as the Teacher Advisor for students in the assigned program, helping navigate students to in-school and out-of-school resources as needed
  • To liaise with contacts in the profession at both the regional and provincial levels
