Our passionate team is committed to enhancing the client experience and delivering operational efficiencies by investing in leading edge technology and leveraging analytics to achieve strategic objectives.As the Underwriting Technical and Quality Consultant, Special Lines you will have the opportunity to leverage your subject matter expertise for commercial while building and maintaining the knowledge and skill levels within the commercial underwriting team, through the coaching and mentoring of underwriters and Advisor field staff on decisions to accept, modify or reject risk. Act as a team lead for complex underwriting inquiries, and application of complicated coverage. Assist in the development and lead the delivery of training material for underwriters.How you will create impact:Coaching and mentoring underwriters on a national basis to develop underwriting skills and knowledge. Including, supporting underwriters’ skill development to gain strong proficiencies in the assessment of risk, negotiation and application of terms, conditions, coverage and rate.Implementing the established direction for specific product portfolios. Including training, coaching and mentoring commercial insurance underwriters to ensure the direction is understood and applied.Assisting Special Risks, Product Specialists, Risk Engineering, Loss Control, Portfolio Specialists and others in developing technical underwriting material. Responsible for delivering technical training to underwriters.Providing direction on complex underwriting inquiries. Coach and counsel underwriters in the assessment of risk, negotiation and application of terms, conditions, coverage and rate.Conducting audits on underwriters and complete reports for the supervisor and staff members.Upon becoming aware, lead the escalation and referral process to Special Risks and Federated and escalate to the National Technical Manager as required.Acting as Subject Matter Expert to represent the operations area on projects/initiatives as required. Including, providing technical expertise and advisory resource for others in regard to a specific line of business.How you will succeed:You have an innovative mindset to improve operational efficiencies and ability to influence change, with a primary focus on client needs.You use critical thinking skills to recognize assumptions, evaluate arguments, draw conclusions and proactively propose solutions.You have strong communication skills to clearly convey messages and explore diverse points of view.You build trusting relationships and provide guidance to support the development of colleagues.To join our team:You have 7 years successful underwriting experience in commercial. Having previous experience and/or knowledge of the oil and gas sector is an asset.
