This is a leave replacement, which is needed for several months, with possibility of extension.The Morgan Arboretum is Canadas largest Arboretum. This 245-hectare forest has served not only as a unique educational resource, but has also provided enjoyment to generations of supporters and visitors.Position Summary:Under the direction of the facility Director, the incumbent will act as communications and public relations professional and will provide services to members, donors, visitors and university researchers and students.Primary Responsibilities:Provides liaison and general information services to the members at the Morgan Arboretum, the public, the media, and to donors, in areas such as seasonal recreational activities, trail system, membership, commemorative program, media requests. Assists with welcoming visitors and members at entrance of the site and act as cashier when needed. Is an active contributor of Arboretum contents on social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).Produces material such as brochures, flyers, posters, interpretative signs, calendars, directional signs, etc., as well as press releases to promote Arboretum’s events and activities. Edits and translates texts in both official languages for various publications and promotional material. Updates Arboretum website, ensuring that information is up-to-date and accurate.Manages the commemorative program (memorial trees, benches, etc.). Answers requests for commemorative products, coordinates the purchase of goods and services with the providers, maintains an updated database of commemorative items, and assesses regularly their condition to plan for maintenance when needed.Participates in development, organization and delivery of Arboretum’s activities offered to members and the community at large.Recruits, selects, trains, schedules, assesses performance, and interacts with volunteers.Prepares reports (i.e. activity reports, membership statistics) for staff, member and volunteer meetings.Liaises with conservation agencies and various stakeholders regarding the protection of rare plant species. Provides advice within area of specialization as appropriate.Undertakes special projects as needed.Acts as editor and produces the Arboretum’s bi-annual bilingual newsletter. Plans material/articles, sets submission deadlines and writes text, interacts with contributors, coordinates text revisions and translation, solicits advertisements, formats and lays out for printing, organizes hardcopy distribution and uploading to web site. Determines production schedule with supplier when any production work needs to be outsourced.Other Qualifying Skills and/or AbilitiesDemonstrated experience working in public relations, marketing, or higher education.Experience working in email marketing, promotional writing, content optimization (SEO), and/or photography, an asset.Experience working with volunteers and donors, an asset.Ability to work as part of a small team. Proven interpersonal and organizational skills.Demonstrated proficiency with use of MS Office software.Strong understanding of web writing and usability principles. Proven experience writing effective web copy.Demonstrated experience building or maintaining websites using the administration interface like Drupal, WordPress, etc.Experience with various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube) and with photo-video editing and graphics software.Ability to stay abreast of evolving best practices, policies, and institutional standards for site and content management.Excellent command of written and spoken English and good command of written and spoken French.Enthusiasm for the outdoors and nature, an asset.Education: University degree preferred.Minimum Education and Experience:DEC III 3 Years Related Experience /Annual Salary:(MPEX Grade 02) $47,030.00 - $58,790.00 - $70,550.00Hours per Week:33.75 (Full time)Supervisor:Associate ProfessorPosition End Date (If applicable):2023-08-31Deadline to Apply:2022-11-06McGill University hires on the basis of merit and is strongly committed to equity and diversity within its community.
