Job Description

Guiker is a leading-edge, rapidly growing, and ambitious real estate technology company. We operate an innovative online platform for landlord-tenant rental management and are pioneers in launching an online exchange for fractional real estate ownership. While we prefer candidates based in Montreal or Quebec, all applicants will be considered. We support and encourage virtual work whenever possible. We are seeking our first full-time Controller to operate, manage, and oversee the accounting and finance functions of our corporate group. The group consists of entities in Quebec, Ontario and USA, of which one entity is a Limited Partnership. This role offers an exciting opportunity to implement processes of which, management is open to future automation and offshore outsourcing to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Currently, the CEO and an external fractional controller manage our accounting, with records up to date through our last fiscal year ends. Responsibilities: Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with the CEO on major deals and transactions, including real estate acquisitions and sales, corporate reorganizations, equity financings, and other significant company events. Technical Integration: Collaborate with the CTO and development team to design financial and accounting functionalities and reports for the company #39;s online platform. Regulatory Communication: Manage communication with Revenu Quebec and the Canada Revenue Agency, including preparing and filing sales tax returns. External Coordination: Coordinate with external experts (legal, accounting, tax) to manage compliance and filings for the group of companies, which includes entities registered in Quebec, Ontario, and the USA (one entity is a partnership). Accountingamp; Finance Management: Operate, manage, and oversee the accounting and finance operations for a rapidly growing real estate technology company. Complianceamp; Reporting: Ensure compliance with corporate taxes, financial reporting, sales taxes, audits, and IFRS/ASPE standards.RequirementsEducation:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Must be a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in good standing.
Experience:
  • Public accounting experience with private companies and a broad knowledge of corporate taxes, financial reporting, sales taxes, audits, IFRS/ASPE, etc.
  • Experience operating, managing, and overseeing the accounting and finance operations for a rapidly growing company.
  • Experience in a real estate or technology company is an asset.
Problem-Solving:
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Communication:
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with internal teams and external partners.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills for strategic collaboration with the CEO and other executives.
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Experience managing communication with Revenu Quebec and the Canada Revenue Agency, including preparing and filing sales tax returns.
  • Proven track record of ensuring compliance with corporate taxes, financial reporting, sales taxes, audits, and IFRS/ASPE standards.
Strategic Collaboration:
  • Ability to work closely with the CEO on major deals and transactions, including real estate acquisitions and sales, corporate reorganizations, and equity financings.
  • Experience coordinating with external experts (legal, accounting, tax) to manage compliance and filings for multiple entities.

  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with integrating financial and accounting functionalities into online platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian tax regulations, including those specific to Quebec and Ontario.
  • Knowledge of U.S. tax regulations and compliance for partnerships.
Technological Aptitude:
  • Up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in finance and accounting, particularly in the PropTech sector.
