We encourage all qualified persons to apply, particularly Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, racialized people, and people with diverse gender identities and sexual orientations, and others who share our values and contribute to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.Reporting to the Deputy Director, Recovery Program Management Office (RPMO), the Coordinator, Housing Shortage will oversee the temporary relocation of people affected by disasters and coordinate staff within their area of activity. The successful candidate will conduct follow-ups and coordinate with community partners regarding temporary lodging for people affected by disasters. They must act in accordance with the Fundamental Principles and mission of the Canadian Red Cross.In this role, you will:Responsibility 1: General management

  • Coordinate the delivery of all services.
  • Conduct briefings, debriefings, and meetings with partners involved in service delivery.
  • Liaise and coordinate with partners involved in service delivery.
  • Ensure that services meet the immediate, short-term, and long-term needs of people helped by the program.
Responsibility 2: Health and safety management
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment for personnel and people helped by the program.
  • Ensure the health and safety of personnel and people helped by the program.
  • Ensure that safety guidelines and procedures are communicated to all parties, and that they are understood and followed.
Responsibility 3: Planning, monitoring, follow-up, and evaluation
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations of the capacity of the site under their responsibility (material and human resources) based on the program needs and communicate needs and findings to the operations manager.
  • Regularly inform the operations manager about activities and share statistics, problems, and successes in accordance with established standards.
  • Provide recommendations on the program exit strategy and close program operations.
Responsibility 4: Communication and representation
  • Establish and maintain regular communication and strong cooperation with local authorities and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the Canadian Red Cross before local and regional partners and media, as required, and in collaboration with the designated communications officer.
  • Communicate with various partners, cities, and organizations and participate in local meetings as required.
  • Compile and send the statistics report as scheduled with the deputy operations director.
What we are looking for:Education and experience
  • A college diploma in a related discipline and at least five years of relevant experience, including three years supervising a team; any other equivalent education or experience may be considered.
  • Experience as a Red Cross Emergency Management volunteer, particularly as a manager/supervisor (an asset).
Knowledge
  • An understanding of the Canadian Red Cross’ role in emergency response, relief, and recovery (an asset).
  • Proficiency with computers (databases, Office suite).
Skills and abilities
  • Language requirements: Be able to deliver services as required for the operation.
  • Leadership: Give clear instructions and delegate tasks, make informed decisions, solve problems, provide the necessary guidance, give feedback, and encourage teamwork.
  • Project management: Plan and prepare for recruitment, mobilization, training, and scheduling, manage change, and conduct follow-ups.
  • Conflict resolution: Listen actively, demonstrate strong mediation and negotiation skills, and develop and implement mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Communication: Be clear, concise, confident, and able to influence others.
  • Coordination: Foster opportunities for collaboration, communicate information, think strategically, and align and prioritize work plans.
  • Teamwork: Be useful to the team, be respectful of team members, be available, and build harmonious relationships.
  • Remaining calm in a crisis: Do not allow emotions to get in the way, remain professional and positive, and act confidently.
Working conditions:
  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment as part of your duties, depending on the policies and procedures in effect at the Canadian Red Cross.
