With Golder now part of our WSP team, we have over 14,000 multidisciplinary professionals worldwide collaborating daily to protect and conserve natural landscapes, create firm foundations for communities to stand on, and champion sustainable development to combat climate change.As part of the team, you will have access to an unparalleled network of resources, expertise, and endless opportunities to collaborate on exciting projects with diverse teammates from marine biologists to geophysicists to geotechnical engineers and more.OpportunityWSP is currently seeking a Lead Advisor, Decarbonization and Energy Transition who will provide technical leadership and direction to our national Climate Change Advisory Services practice with preference to one of these locations; Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Halifax, or other WSP Canada office locations.The successful candidate will lead client-facing teams in the delivery of our projects nationally, while also working with the Manager of the Climate Change Advisory Services practice to ensure the delivery of the strategic plan and practice targets. Candidates should be passionate about climate change, self-motivated and self-directed, collaborative, and able to produce high-quality work products.We are distinct in the market owing to:

  • Managing client relationships and directing client delivery teams.
  • Directing large project teams including determining technical approach, management and delegation of tasks, and guiding / teaching intermediate and junior staff from a technical perspective.
  • Leading business development activities with existing and prospective clients.
  • Developing company GHG inventories and product life cycle inventories.
  • Developing and managing decarbonization strategies and GHG target setting.
  • Producing sustainability disclosures and other communications aligned with leading frameworks (e.g., CDP, GRI, SASB, TCFD).
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
What youll bring to WSP
  • Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or science, or a related discipline.
    • 7 - 15 years of related professional experience including experience in advisory services with a focus on climate change, climate risks, adaptation and decarbonization planning.
    • Demonstrated expertise with greenhouse gas accounting principles (e.g., GHG Protocol) and experience in the development of corporate greenhouse gas inventories across a variety of industries.
    • Demonstrated experience conducting Scope 3 value chain GHG assessments and knowledge of Scope 3 techniques and methods.
    • Demonstrated experience working on GHG emission reduction initiatives, delivering decarbonization strategies and associated cost/benefit analysis.
    • Project management experience (from scoping and budget development to management of clients and project teams, to ultimate delivery).
    • Experience as a technical lead, including responsibility for technical reviews of deliverables.
    • Extensive experience with client and stakeholder engagement.
    • Strong presentation, facilitation and / or training skills. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate results via Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and other related software and develop compelling presentations and reports.
    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects/project teams concurrently, and manage time efficiently.
    • Ability to collaborate remotely across geographies and platforms.
    • Well-developed interpersonal skills, maturity, credibility, confidence, and integrity.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Advanced degrees in engineering or science, or studies in a relevant field.
    • Fluency in English, and professional proficiency in French would be an asset.
    • Experience in a professional consulting environment.
    • Relevant experience with financial institutions.
    • Experience quantifying financed emissions in line with guidance from the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF).
    • Knowledge and understanding of the offset markets (including removal offsets) and the role they can play in overall decarbonization strategy for clients.
    • Experience developing techno-economic studies and assessing the technological feasibility and cost associated with proposed mitigation actions or adaptation initiatives.
    • Knowledge of carbon markets.
