We support flexible schedules and working from home.Role SummaryAs a Manager, Underwritting, you will lead the operational underwriting team by providing strong leadership and direction regarding business rules and practices and by providing strong underwriting expertise, coaching, training and relationship management and customer focus to deliver exceptional service and quality standards.Key Accountabilities

  • Provide strong expertise to underwriters on large and complex cases including escalations and claims rescissions
  • Identify, solve and follow up on problems relating to technical underwriting issues, including methodology, philosophy, processes and systems
  • Manage workloads and staffing levels on a daily basis to ensure service standards are met
  • Accountable for the quality and quantity of work done
  • Ensure adherence to established operating parameters
  • Liaise with Plan Sponsors to strengthen relationships, especially on difficult and sensitive cases
  • Support initiatives developed by Product that will assist in meeting growth objectives which are in keeping with the underwriting philosophy
  • Ensure all underwriters are challenged and engaged in their roles and continue to grow and learn new aspects of underwriting providing for richer development
  • Provide exceptional communication, both verbally and in writing, considering the intended audience of primarily medical doctors and anticipates expected reaction to communication messages. Answers questions accurately, demonstrating approach ability and establishing credibility
  • Participate as the Subject Matter Expert for business projects
  • Contribute to a positive environment through team work, and a spirit of innovation, continuous improvement and professional development
Key Skills/Competencies
  • At least 5 years experience in Life, Critical Illness and Disability products is an asset
  • Highly developed leadership skills for coaching and training underwriters
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills with ability to influence and negotiate
  • Service-oriented attitude with strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with our internal and external partners
