His responsibilities require having an overview of all the activities of the department relating to payroll including tax laws, labor standards, collective agreements and company policies.Job description:

  • Manage the preparation and processing of payroll for all unionized and non-unionized staff;
  • Understanding and application of several collective agreements, company policies, tax laws and provincial laws (Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia) relating to labor standards;
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders (city, provincial, federal, agency, etc.);
  • Prepare payroll journal entries at the end of each month;
  • Validate government remittances made by the Payroll Department;
  • Balancing and preparing year end reports related to the payroll process (T4 / R1, Summaries, CNESST, WSIB, WHSCC);
  • Provide support to heads of departments with regard to the time and attendance system as well as payroll system;
  • Optimize the use of the Timezone and Nethris systems and participate in the development of new modules;
  • Respond to inquiries from employees, heads of departments, accounting and management staff;
  • Validate and update the different time banks (vacations, illnesses, bank holidays, etc.);
  • Management of group insurance premiums;
  • Management of wage garnishments and remittances;
  • All other related tasks.
Education:
  • Bachelors (Undergraduate degree) - Asset
  • A.E.C. (Attestation of Vocational Studies) - Essential
Qualifications:
  • Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) Certification - Asset
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification - Asset
Skills:
  • Planning and organizational skills to set and achieve goals - High - Asset
  • Work experience in a unionized environment - High - Essential
  • Able to work under pressure - High - Essential
  • Knowledge of payroll practices and legislation - Asset
