By partnering with filmmakers to unite their creative visions, with our industry-leading craftsmanship and artistry, we create characters that connect with audiences on an authentic and emotional level to bring powerful stories to life.Job DescriptionThe Rendering Manager’s mission is to investigate, document, report and help develop tools to promote overall technical efficiency in 3D scenes rendering at Mikros Animation.The Rendering Manager collaborates with all the department supervisors to optimize the rendering process and maintain (or help creating) monitoring tools.The Rendering Manager works closely with Production, Technical Directors, Software, Core Technology and Technology Resource Management teams to maintain rendering pipeline consistency. He/She/They is assisted by on show rendering artists for this mission.Responsibilities:Preparation and support

  • Forecast of the shows’ rendering needs, in coordination with the project supervisors (VFX, CG, Environment, FX and Lighting).
  • Definition, Documentation and implementation of the studio best practices in collaboration with studio Surfacing, CG, Lighting and Compositing Supervisors.
Analysis and alert
  • Use and improve existing monitoring tools, in collaboration with Technology Resource Management (TRM), Production and Operations teams
  • Propose new ways to give feedback to the relevant teams (production, resources, operations)
  • Define the appropriate metrics and analyze them to evaluate the complexity of 3D scenes
  • Ensure the optimal use of the computing resources (logs, average computing time, etc.) and support the artists and supervisors when necessary
  • Track job logs to understand and prevent failures
Optimization
  • Give feedback to production artists and supervisors to improve the global rendering time
  • Ensure that rendering issues are addressed, either through processes or tools developed in collaboration with the technology teams
Management
  • Implement effective strategies to align resources and production requirements
  • Ensure consistency of rendering job submission
  • Manage rendering artists to help in the day-to-day analysis
QualificationsSkills and experience required:
  • Previous experience in 3D rendering and rendering time optimization, preferably with Arnold
  • Great communication skills, positive and with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of the Animation pipeline
  • Comfortable with computer tools and the Linux operating system
  • Professional English required
  • Ability to travel to different production sites (Canada, France, India, UK)
Additional assets:
  • Knowledge of Python
  • Experience with Tractor
