Teaching tasks include the preparation of course and course plan, delivery of course, evaluating student performance and grading student work and grade submission. Instructors attend departmental meetings and attend professional development training activities related to the program.Course description and learning outcomesIn this course, students will be learning to develop their UX skills through a series of immersive projects designed to help students think like a UX practitioner and create tangible deliverables (competitive analysis matrices, personas, wireframes, prototypes). Practical methodologies and the latest prototyping tool Figma will be used.Each module of the course will offer students the opportunity to solve business and product design challenges while applying the latest user-centered design principles. These include practical UX techniques such as user research, journey mapping, design thinking, wireframing, prototyping and validation testing.There are 4 modules to the course.MODULE 1: Fundamentals of UX DesignMODULE 2: Redesigning an existing app using a metrics-driven product design approachMODULE 3: Production workflows taking designs from low-fi wireframes to Figma prototypesMODULE 4: Develop a persona by translating projects into case studies and showcase your portfolioBy the end of this course, the students will be able to:

  • Apply UX design principles and methodology to support production workflows as a member of a product development team
  • Conduct research and interpret data for an improved end user experience
  • Convey the problem for team members using customer personas, journey maps and storyboards
  • Apply design-thinking methodology to generate potential solutions that response to the end user’s needs
  • Create a series of visual materials to arrive to a final design/interaction specification
  • User end-user data gathered through feedback and testing to support design decisions
  • Finalize design within technical parameter and export design elements to a specifications document for developers
  • Prepare professional documentation and artifacts relating to the design process to showcase in a professional portfolio
  • Apply professional self reflection, collaboration, storytelling, problem solving and active listening techniques throughout the UX design process
  • Design for business impact while balancing the needs of the user
Qualifications and assets
  • Education with an BA/MA in Interactive Design and/ or Designed Related field or equivalent, DEC in Media Arts
  • Relevant industry experience for over 5 years or equivalent
  • Relevant teaching experience for 3 years or equivalent
  • Experience in sketching, wireframing, prototyping, knowledge in coding, Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, taking a digital project from concept to market, designing for business impact.
