Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Canadian Bar Association (the CBA) the Executive Director, Shared Services (ED ShS) drives the Shared Services model as a member of the Management Team (MT) within the CBA ecosystem. In addition to the ED ShS, this group comprises the CEO, the Executive Directors from the Provincial/Territorial Branches, Executive Director of the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CCCA), and the Executive Director of Advocacy.The ED ShS is charged with working collaboratively with the branches, CCCA, and senior leadership staff at the National Office. Under the authority of the CEO #39;s office, this role is held accountable for the successful execution of assigned deliverables and providing recommendations to the MT for shared services.The objective of the role is to achieve greater coordination between CBA entities and leverage capacity to utilize combined resources to deliver greater member value and organizational effectiveness. The ED ShS currently has two direct reports: the Senior Director, Membership Strategy, and the Director, Information Technology (a joint report with the CEO). There may be additional direct reports in the future, in addition to added coordination duties of indirect and direct teams. Location Anywhere in Canada (remote). Languages The CBA delivers services in both of Canada’s official languages. Fluent bilingual skills, both written and oral, are an asset. $160,000 per year plus benefits. Reporting The ED ShS is a member of the MT, which is responsible for the joint operational success of the association and for the fulfillment of the strategic plan. The role of ED ShS reports directly to the CEO as the Chair of the MT. It is through the MT that shared accountability for the outcomes in shared services will be sought. Responsibilities

  • Gains an understanding of the desired metrics and develops reporting capabilities across the organization
  • Manages the shared services budget, liaising with the National CFO and delivers reporting and forecasting to the MT making reference to areas of efficiency and risk within the shared services structure
  • Actions diarized deliverables resulting from MT and other meetings
  • Establishes and coordinates the work of shared services teams, such as the Membership Team and IT Team
  • Identifies and reports potential or emerging issues of risk or concern within the shared services structure to the MT and mitigates risk by providing recommendations suggesting possible viable outcomes
  • Develops and delivers strategy and action plans to the MT, identifying opportunities to share/use programs, resources, and services across CBA entities and ecosystem
  • Schedule, host, and participate in All Staff Forums
  • Refines and executes the implementation plan that allows for the roll-out of shared services functions
  • Utilizes technology and analytical tools to develop and analyze key performance indicators and other data as needed
  • Communicates findings via periodic reports and presentations
  • Maintains external benchmark data and participates in key surveys to ensure relevant metrics to support/business decisions
  • Supervises and manages the Senior Director, Membership Strategy and Director, Information Technology (a joint report with the CEO) and additional reports as assigned
Qualifications Education
  • Certified PMP (Project Management Professional) preferred
Experience
  • 8 years’ experience in program or project management
  • 6 years’ experience managing people and cross-functional teams
  • Experience in full cycle budget planning to effectively coordinate budget preparation
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong communication skills to interact with all stakeholders
  • Ability to build consensus among key stakeholders with diverse needs and interests
  • Ability to manage multiple demands in a fast-paced environment, adapting to shifting priorities
  • Strong skills in Office suite to be self-sufficient without administrative support
  • Ability to work in both official languages is an asset
  • Ability to provide hands-on leadership and expertise to direct and indirect reports
