The Materials Solution department offers engineering solutions through root cause failure analysis, welding engineering, coatings and corrosion consulting, and fitness-for-service analysis. We also provide standard and non-standard environment testing including salt fog corrosion, UV condensation, pressurized hydrogen tensile testing, fatigue testing, and evaluation of self-lubricating bushings. A variety of value-added projects for electric utilities, transportation industries, fabrication shops and certification agencies are also carried out by the Materials Solutions department.Under the direction of the Team Lead, Materials Solutions, the incumbent will demonstrate technical expertise and strategic thinking for a variety of complex materials engineering services and projects with a strong focus on weld procedure specification, consulting and component failure analysis.You will work with engineers, technicians, and technologists to develop scope of services, continuously improve processes, evaluate budgets /schedules into value-driven proposals, elevate team objectives and execute technical deliverables throughout the project life cycle. Expertise in the following areas are highly desired assets: materials characterization and mechanical property testing, component condition assessment and/or fitness-for-service analysis, coatings specification and evaluation, cathodic protection design, and corrosion analysis, mitigation, and testing.* Execute successful materials engineering consulting-related services, lead tests and inspections, and market the department’s services.* Manage projects (scope, schedule, and budgets) of moderate to higher complexity, lead in project methodology design, and prepare quotations.* Write clear technical and test reports to verify engineering analysis and drive fact-based decisions. * Initiate and maintain professional relationships with Engineers, technicians, technologist, consultants, contractors and suppliers to communicate information and resolve issues of concern.* Lead root cause analyses and problem-solving. Document findings and provide suggestions for refinement and improvements.* Develop standardized processes and technical procedures. * Develop processes to improve the efficiency of operations. Qualifications* Materials or metallurgical engineering or equivalent degree recognized by universities in Canada required.* Minimum seven (7)related experience with metallurgical knowledge including practical understanding and experience in various welding techniques (TIG, MIG, SMAW, etc.) * Registration or ability to immediately register as a professional engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (i.e., non-British Columbia registrations are acceptable as long as there is an ability to immediately transfer the accreditation). * Experience in preparing standard and custom weld procedure specifications and relevant codes and standards (CWB, ASME, CSA, etc.)* Experience in mechanical failure investigation, inclusive of root cause analysis, mitigation, repair, or replacement strategies.* Familiarity with internationally recognized testing, inspection, and design standards related to welding. A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Driver #39;s License (Class 5) in good standing.
