Job Description

Our Nipawin, SK branch is looking for an exceptional individual to join our service department as a Shop Foreman for our John Deere - agriculture dealership.The Shop Foreman is responsible for the effective supervision of the Service Department to ensure that quality standards and productivity requirements are met in accordance with Service Optimization standards. The individual acts as the Service Manager when the Manager is away from the dealership and provide quotes and estimates to customers as required, review work orders with customers, directs closing of work orders and collects payment for work orders or directs Service Administrative staff to collect payment as appropriate.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESWork order setup, inspection, and oversight of work

  • Assign jobs and work orders to employees according to their skills and knowledge.
  • Direct and assist in the diagnosis of equipment problems so repairs are completed in a timely manner.
  • Inspect completed repairs to make certain repair times are correct.
  • Stay informed of the progress on all jobs in their area of responsibility.
  • Executes dealership Quality Control initiatives concerning pre-delivery inspections.
  • Escalate customer/employee issues to Service Manager based on complexity.
  • Review all completed work orders for completeness and accuracy concerning parts.
  • Support Service Advisors by responding to technical questions from customers.
  • Review work orders where additional repairs have been identified by Service Technician and communicate these needs to Service Advisor
  • Demonstrate proper and safe operation of equipment by the customer.
Oversight of Shop Environment and Technical Development of Service Technicians
  • Serve as a key point-of-contact/lead technician for technicians on equipment repair
  • Coordinate technician training with the Group/Corporate Service Manager
  • Ensure that all procedures are performed safely and that technicians have adequate knowledge of how to safely operate the equipment being repaired.
  • Inspect and repair all special tools and recommend new tooling.
  • Maintain good housekeeping discipline for a clean and safe working environment.
  • Demonstrate skills to other technicians as required.
  • Hold or attend daily production meetings with service technicians to discuss work for the day and to review Service Department performance
  • Meet daily with Service Manager to review Service Department performance and personnel matters.
  • Discipline technicians as required or recommend disciplinary action to Service Manager.
  • Provide a strong team building environment allowing individuals to make solid, well informed decisions.
Maintenance and Repair Work
  • Bill approximately 50% of available time
  • Perform other duties as directed by Management.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTSEducation: High school, Service TechnicianExperience: 3 yearsCertification: 310T Journeyman license (Truck and Coach), Journeyman level (Ag)Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Highly skilled in maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Solid coaching skills
  • Demonstrated level of maturity
  • Ability to use standard computer desktop applications
  • Ability to speak effectively one-on-one or within a group.
  • Basic understanding of financial principles related to Service Department operations.
  • Excellent negotiation / conflict resolution skills
  • Proven ability to network with others and a strong sense of caring and relationship building.
  • Strong decision-making skills and able to delegate responsibility with confidence and trust.
