Overview / Responsibilities:Wood has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Specialist (temporary part time - 25-30 hours per week for approximately 6 months), supporting projects in the Food & Agri industry. This position is located at our project site in Nipawin, Saskatchewan.Key Responsibilities:As a seconded member into the client’s organization, integrate with the client project teams, providing technical support as defined below and as directed by the Client Project Manager.Provide operations-oriented input into conceptual development of the project, design standards, design development, equipment preferences, and vendor preferences.Work with the project team to define the project scope during the FEL phases of the project.Provide technical guidance to Client project teams and engineering consultants. Respond to technical queries when requested. Engage other Client technical specialists where required to resolve queries.Project concept definition and selection (technology selection studies, process configuration studies, optimization studies, site selection studies) – Assist the project manager / project engineer in developing study work scopes. Provide guidance / clarification to engineering consultants, review / comment on completed studies and provide recommendations to the project team.Evaluate and recommend process technology alternatives.Support in the making of process based design decisions during FEL phases– Work with engineering consultants to ensure problem statement and potential solutions are well defined. When required, prepare summaries complete with recommendations and present to project management where required.Support in the making of Process and Process Equipment based decisions during detail design and construction– Work with engineering consultants/contractors to ensure problem statement and potential solutions are well defined. When required, prepare summaries complete with recommendations and present to project management where required.Assist project management in developing the project objectives for the Project Charter.Assist project management in preparing technical deliverables or reviewing technical deliverables prepared by others for gate decision support packages.Assist the project manager / project engineer in defining the design basis required for work assigned to engineering consultants.Review, provide input and endorse mechanical project drawings. Verify adherence to technical criteria, including Client standardsParticipate in design reviews, process hazard assessments, etc. as requested.Assist in the development of the project specific equipment technical specifications. – Define (where required), review, provide input and endorse for bidding / purchase.Assist in the solicitation and evaluation of vendor equipment proposals – review proposals, request technical clarifications and resolve prior to ordering.Support in the development of project feasibility studies created by others– evaluate, provide input and endorse.Skills / Qualifications:Qualifications:Technical diploma in a relevant field15+ years of experience in technical support and technical leadership roles in the Industrial sector.
