As subject matter expert, the Labour Relations Specialist will:Provide advice and direction to the People & Culture team and Operational Leaders on complex and high-risk labour relations mattersSupport HR team in the investigation process for high risk and complex employee mattersPromotes best practice and adherence to labour standardsParticipate in developing labour relations strategies and tactics that align with the corporate strategies and our Guiding Principles and maintain, track, and analyze labour relations dataParticipate in the negotiation of collective agreements, mediation/arbitration hearings and advise on the administration and interpretation of multiple collective bargaining agreementsEnsure that operational labour relations are aligned with strategic labour relationsCollaborate with other corporate support teams to resolve labour relations issues impacting those areas/departmentsAbout YouIn addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Labour Relations, Industrial Relations, or Human ResourcesAt least seven (7) years progressive experience in a labour relations environment, including a minimum of three (3) years of complex labour relations experienceA valid driver’s license is required as the position includes required travel throughout the province/other provinces in which we operateExperience handling complaints and grievances, interpreting collective agreements and maintaining effective working relationships with union representativesDemonstrated knowledge of applicable labour and employment legislation, and human rights legislationExcellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others to accomplish objectives, collaborate with othersStrong negotiation, facilitation, conflict resolution and advocacy skillsCHRP designation, or equivalent, is considered an assetFrench language fluency is also considered an assetAbout UsIt all began in 1988 when our Founder, Joseph Shannon, purchased a single nursing home in his hometown of Sydney, Cape Breton.
