Normally, applicants will not be solicited for incomplete or possible missing information."Contact information for 3 references.In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)EDUCATION - BOTH STREAMS:Successful completion of secondary school or an equivalent to provincial standards.Degree equivalencyEXPERIENCE – BOTH STREAMS:Experience in operating canoes, boats and various types of vehicles.Experience in the use of chain saws, bush saws, and/or other small gas powered equipment.Experience in janitorial duties and the use of various cleaning agents and materials.Experience in general maintenance (trails and small structures).The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)English essentialInformation on language requirementsKNOWLEDGE - BOTH STREAMSKnowledge of safety and work practices for operations on the water as well as remote locations.General knowledge of basic computer programs.KNOWLEDGE - STREAM 2 (in addition to the above):Knowledge of the work methods and procedures used in labour, janitorial, painting and basic carpentry maintenance tasks.Knowledge of the safe work practices including use of power tools and gas powered equipment.General knowledge of carpentry and building science.ABILITIES - BOTH STREAMS:Ability to operate canoes and boats safely on lakes and rivers.Ability to carry out normal maintenance tasks involving labour, basic carpentry and painting duties.Ability to provide service to the public.Ability to read and understand maps, plans, manuals and drawings.PERSONAL SUITABILITY - BOTH STREAMS:Effective communicationExercises sound judgmentInitiativeEffective interpersonal relationsThe following may be applied / assessed at a later date (may be needed for the job)OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTSValid First Aid certificate at the standard level.Willingness to obtain and maintain a valid PCOC (pleasure craft operators certificate).Willingness to work in all weather conditions normally encountered from April through November in the central inland portion of Nova Scotia.This position requires the incumbent to work in remote locations.This position will require regular overnight stays in remote lodging.Required to physically perform strenuous work and walk extended distances while carrying a load up to 40 kg.Required to wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy.Required to wear appropriate protective clothing.Willingness to work overtime, holidays, weekends, after hours.Conditions of employmentReliability Status security clearance - A security status screening is undertaken by Parks Canada for candidates who are successful in the competition.
