The Western Wheel, a community newspaper/community website in Okotoks, Alberta, is accepting applications for a permanent, full-time news reporter position in our newsroom.We are looking for a talented writer who is able to investigate breaking news and produce compelling stories and features for both our online and print products.Candidates should be active on social media, have proficiency in still photography, and be comfortable with multimedia reporting. This position will require occasional evening work as part of council coverage and the reporter will be expected to submit seven to eight stories per week.Applicants should have a degree or diploma from a recognized journalism school, or, related education/experience.The Western Wheel is an award-winning newspaper and a part of the Great West Media group of newspapers and community websites. The Wheel’s news coverage includes the Town of Okotoks and the Foothills County which incorporates a number of smaller towns and villages.Located just 15 minutes south of Calgary, Okotoks has a population of approximately 33,000 and is an active community hosting a number of entertainment, sports and social events throughout the year.Salary is commensurate with experience.
