Job Description

The School of Life Science and Business is seeking an Animal Care Technician for its Animal Hospital to support programming in the areas within Animal Health (AHT, VMR, VTA).The Animal Care Technician is responsible for coordinating animal acquisition and care for Olds College Animal Health programming areas. In close communication with program faculty and staff, the Animal Care Technician supports animal care and animal use, supports student participation in animal care rotations, works with rescue partners, and maintains spaces to support program and accreditation requirements related to animal use.Key Job Functions:

  • Procurement and scheduling of appropriate animals from rescue partners
  • Maintains relevant records
  • Performs the day-to-day operations and animal care within the animal wards
  • Collects samples to support program learning
  • Responsible for maintaining animal ward space and supplies
  • Supports student participation in animal care rotations
  • Ensuring the proper care of animals in accordance with program requirements and the Canadian Council on Animal Care
Requirements: The successful candidate will be a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) and licensed to practice in the Province of Alberta or eligible for licensure in the province. A minimum of 3 years of related experience is required. The successful candidate must be highly motivated with excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. The successful candidate must be willing to work flexible hours.
