Job Description

Olds College is looking for temporary Caretaking people to join our team on days and afternoon shifts. Reporting to the Caretaking Supervisor, the Caretaker II will provide maintenance/caretaking services for the various buildings on the Olds College campus.Key Job Functions:

  • Provide essential cleaning services to the campus (cleaning classrooms, offices, common spaces, washrooms, removing waste, etc.).
  • Ensure areas are cleaned as per task frequency determined by the Caretaking Supervisor.
  • Identify and address hazards in the areas and hazards associated with work processes through regular documented Health and Safety Inspections.
  • Support surplus and space utilization policies through equipment moves or furniture moves as requested by the Caretaking Supervisor.
  • Act as a pest-control officer as required.
  • Perform event set-ups and takedowns as required.
  • Check fire extinguishers and ensure they are in proper working condition as per direction by the Caretaking Supervisor.
  • Support Waste Management through compliance and effective identification of waste streams.
  • Support snow removal by sanding sidewalks and shovelling entrances.
  • Ensure that work orders are properly completed and related documentation is processed properly.
  • Support our Caretaking supply inventory by advising when consumables are low.
  • Report/assist on minor maintenance requirements (i.e. fixtures, fittings, and all visible elements of our facilities).
Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:
  • High school diploma. A Post-secondary education in a trade would be considered an asset.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum of 6 months related work experience.
  • Maintaining a required level of fitness including: manual dexterity, ability to lift up to 50lbs, and ability to perform repetitive physical work.
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates reasoning and decision making skills.
  • Demonstrates above average time and stress management skills.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Ability to adopt new technology and practices.
  • Excellent computer literacy skills.
