There are many reasons to join Olds College and build a meaningful career in a community that is innovative, diverse and welcoming.The OpportunityDean, Werklund School of Agriculture Technology (WSAT)Olds College, Werklund School of Agriculture Technology, is currently seeking a permanent, full-time Dean. The anticipated start date for this opportunity is on or before October 2022.Reporting to the Vice President, Academic and Student Experience, the Dean is responsible for focusing on leadership, management and resourcing of programs and staff to meet the full-time and part-time educational programming needs of learners and industry partners in fields related to WSAT.Launched in September 2019, WSAT is committed to providing a one-of-a-kind learning experience that prepares students for future-focused careers and leadership roles throughout the ag sector. Students have access to new ag tech programs and hands-on/high-tech learning experiences through the Olds College Smart Farm. WSAT provides training and education programming that engages students to understand, utilize and leverage the latest smart ag technologies.Key Job Functions

  • Contribute to the achievement of the Olds College Strategic Plan.
  • Supervise, evaluate and support the school in a manner that promotes excellence in instruction and an exceptional student experience.
  • Oversee the development, delivery, evaluation and modification of full-time and part-time programming.
  • Manage instructional workloads and instructional support.
  • Manage day-day functions of the school.
  • Provide direction and supervision to faculty and staff.
  • Serve as key communication conduit between School staff/faculty and other College departments.
  • Engage in frequent interaction with a large variety of internal and external contacts and stakeholders.
  • Confident in, and apply, all three employee agreements with faculty, AUPE and AME.
  • Responsible for all progressive discipline for direct reports and any sensitive Human Resource matters.
  • Ensure WSAT is operating with consistent Human Resource and Academic practices.
  • Support the development and updating of college policies and procedures, with a focus on those in the academic area.
Qualifications
  • A relevant Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Relevant and meaningful work experience in a post-secondary or other educational environment performing or overseeing instruction, program management, curriculum development and curriculum evaluation is essential (Note: Other combinations of education, training and experience may be considered).
  • Previously established strong relationships with industry sectors considered an asset, or demonstrate an ability to quickly and effectively develop these relationships.
  • Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, diplomacy, and good judgment.
  • Capacity to interpret data and financial information and manage financial transactions with a high level of internal controls.
  • Capability to meet demanding deadlines and complete a high volume of diverse projects with a great degree of initiative and independence.
