Job Description

Olds College is looking for a Payroll Practitioner to join the Business Services team. Payroll Practitioner under the leadership of the Payroll Supervisor and direction from Human Resources assists with the bi-weekly processing of the College’s payroll. The core payroll functions include data entry, processing of timesheets, validation, payments of wages, payroll remittances payments, filing of Record of Employments (ROE) & T4’s, and reconciliations between the payroll system (ADP Workforce Now) and the financial system (Oracle Fusion). The Payroll Practitioner has an integral role in the accurate and timely processing of the payroll for approximately 600 positions comprising two collective agreements.Key Job Functions:

  • Assisting with the processing of payroll on a bi-weekly basis
  • Calculates pay and benefit entitlements
  • Prepares payroll adjustments based on directions from Human Resources (eg including vacation payout, severance pay, shift differentials, overtime and retroactive adjustments, etc)
  • Prepares and verifies statements of earnings for employees indicating gross and net salaries and deductions such as taxes, union dues, garnishments and insurance and pension plans according to collective agreements
  • Assists in the filing of Record of Employments (ROE) & T4’s
  • Communicates with college departments and employees on payroll matters via phone, email, and in-person
  • Administers staff parking passes and associated payroll deductions
  • Maintain payroll information in a secure manner to ensure confidentiality, compliance with FOIP, and retention regulations
  • Preparing Bank Account Reconciliations, assisting in regulatory payroll filing, and assisting in the reconciliation of payroll accounts
Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:
  • Enrolled or completed in Post Secondary Education in Accounting, Management, Human Resources, or Business required
  • Completed or working towards enrollment in the National Payroll Institute’s Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation, support will be provided
  • 2 years experience in a customer service oriented role (combination of education and experience is accepted)
  • Prior payroll, human resources, or accounting experience beneficial
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills required, advanced Excel skills are beneficial
  • Experience using Google Suite (Gmail, Google Drive, etc)
  • Analytical mindset
  • Ability to gain an understanding of provincial labour codes, collective bargaining agreements, and payroll deductions
  • Able to multi task and prioritize work while meeting strict deadlines
  • High attention to detail, maintain confidentiality and work effectively in a team environment
  • Cover Letter requested as park of application
