So if fresh, local, and community driven are important values to you, we would encourage you to consider a career at BC Tree Fruits.The JobThe Line Operator is responsible for directing the work, as instructed from Production Supervisors and ensuring that proper grading and packing requirements are met. The Line Operator is responsible for ensuring that they are overseeing all elements of the production line and clearly communicating to all working throughout the production. All duties must be performed in a safe manner to ensure compliance with internal grading standards, government regulations, industry standards, customer requirements and to also ensure both food and worker safety.Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all WSBC regulations and Cooperative safety procedures, including but not limited to:
    • First Aid Procedures
    • WHMIS/GHS Regulations
    • Personal Protective Equipment
    • Lockout Procedures
    • Water Treatment Procedures
  • Adhere to all pertinent Food Safe procedures as required and detailed under the Food Safety program and your training.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management within the context of:
    • Be sufficiently trained in the operating positions and to assist and fill all production roles as required.
    • Monitoring wax, scholar, chlorination, ORP systems and water levels on bin filler and flumes.
    • Ensure that the production lines are running according to the production schedule & proper work procedures.
    • Assigning certain aspects of work as well as demonstrating proper work procedures to employees.
    • Assess lines to ensure food and worker safety, quality, and correct production as per Canada GAP and WSBC regulations.
    • Keep track of paperwork for startup verification, costing; number of people on the line, number of bins ran, total culls and downtime.
    • Ensure that a radio is always carried and perform a daily radio check (refer to SOP).
    • Ensure that the Downtime Duties List is communicated during downtime.
    • Performing basic troubleshooting and reporting any malfunctions of the equipment.
    • Ensure that all WorkSafe and Food Safe procedures are adhered too.
    • Bring forward maintenance concerns and production related matters to management.
    • Track grower lots, partial bins and packing through the IMS and Mapper programs.
    • Effective written and verbal communication with the production supervisors.
    • Working closely with maintenance and the management team.
    • Will be required to cross-train in all locations within this specific classification.
    • Participate in the training of employees.
    • Any other duties assigned within the nature of the job.
    • Participate and coordinate in emergency procedures
    • To ensure the changing of PLUs and printing of labels.
    • Verification of the stamper including date, product SKU, lot number.
    • Verification of QC checks and communicate with appropriate employees on the line.
Housekeeping
  • To ensure you are following the WINS program at all times and “If you see it, say it”.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and sanitary working area by keeping the area clear of product and supplies.
  • Keep tools and equipment clean and in good shape. Put clean tools away when they are finished in the appropriate designated areas.
  • Ensure that all waste and garbage is disposed of correctly i.e. recycling and garbage.
  • Keep storage area uncluttered and materials are stacked properly.
  • Handwashing procedure and ensuring this is completed before entering the area of production.
  • Keep all access routes clear and report any issues promptly.
  • Use wet floor signage when required and report any spills to your production supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Adhere to all pertinent Food Safe procedures as required and detailed under the Food Safety program and your training.
  • Be willing to submit to periodic proficiency testing as management deems necessary.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with fellow employees and management.
  • Be able to work with or without direct supervision, individually or part of a team.
  • Organized and able to maintain and keep clear, accurate, and detailed records with legible handwriting.
  • Proven diligence in following all WSBC and Cooperative work safe policies and procedures.
  • Be physically capable to perform all duties as required, including lifting up to 50lb.
  • Be comfortable working with and around machinery in a team environment.
  • Performing basic troubleshooting and reporting any malfunctions of the equipment.
  • Must be able to work all shifts, including AM / PM and weekends as required.
  • May be required to work overtime depending on production needs.
  • Will be required to cross-train in all production roles.
  • Possess time management skills to ensure efficiency.
  • Have the ability to work competently with computers.
  • Fruit Industry knowledge is an asset.
  • Preferred to possess and maintain level 1 First Aid.
Training
  • Training programs will be assigned to employee and must be completed prior to starting training.
  • Will be assigned a ‘trainee’ to teach and instruct how to perform all job duties.
  • After 240 training hours the employee will be assessed by your supervisor.
  • All training will be conducted following all BC Tree Fruits safety policies.
  • Annual competency assessments will be conducted
