Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:Reporting to the building Services Manager and/or designate, carries out maintenance duties related to building, equipment, fixtures, and grounds as directed by Building Services Coordinator/Management staff (e.g. Admin on-call).REPONSIBILITIES:Includes but not limited to;

  • Maintains and cleans grounds, parking area and sidewalks, including snow removal and power washing.
  • Transfers and moves heavy equipment, furniture and supplies.
  • Collects and disposes of refuse and keeps refuse area clean.
  • Performs plumbing maintenance such as unblocking sewer lines; replacing fixtures such as flush tank mechanisms, tap washers and faucets.
  • Cleans electrical rooms and lubricates door hinges and locks.
  • Performs drywall repairs and paint touch-ups in resident rooms, public areas and any other areas as directed.
  • Replaces interior and exterior light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
  • Performs carpentry maintenance such as replacing glides on furniture, removing and replacing door handles and attaching items such as drapery tracks and baseboards to walls.
  • Maintains nurse call system by monitoring active call screen, replacing batteries and faulty equipment (e.g. pull stations).
  • Performs mechanical maintenance on equipment such as wheelchairs, beds, hoists, bath lifts and carts by cleaning, greasing, oiling and replacing broken and worn parts such as castors and filters.
  • Relocates and maintains ceiling lifts, providing information to the Building Services Coordinator to update equipment inventory.
  • Repairs window screens and blinds.
  • Follows schedule for HVAC filter and belt replacements.
  • Reports unsafe or faulty equipment to Building Services Coordinator and/or management staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Grade 10 plus one year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
