Visit us today and check out www.novascotia.com to see why more people from across the globe are moving here.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Manager, Health Information Services and the Site Manager of the South Cumberland Community Care Centre, the Secretary II is responsible to provide operational support and organizational assistance for Administration, Central Registration, Primary Health Care and the Long Term Care Unit. The candidate must be able to process patients/clients for booking, registration and admission of patients in an efficient and courteous manner, considering always the wellbeing of the patients/clients/residents and coworkers in accordance with the philosophy of the department and the Nova Scotia Health Authority. The candidate must be self-motivated with the organizational skills necessary to perform the tasks associated with the central booking and registration area, the finance functions and to be able to provide administrative support. The candidate must be able to work independently with the ability to prioritize daily tasks. Rotating shifts / weekend shifts / cross training may be required.Qualifications

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Graduate of a post-secondary business or office administration program or equivalent
  • Successful completion of a recognized Medical Terminology course required
  • Medical Office Assistant diploma preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in office administration required
  • Demonstrated experience in the NShIS community wide scheduling and ADM module preferred
  • Experience in computerized booking processes preferred i.e. Med Access
  • Experience in electronic communication, excellence in Microsoft Office products, including excel and word required
  • Skill and accuracy in typing required
  • Meditech experience an asset
  • Previous experience in a health care setting an asset
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team and to request and accept direction as required
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills, within scope of employment while exercising good judgment in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation service delivery
  • Demonstrates professional manner, effective personal and communication skills, initiative, effective time management and organizational skills, required assessment skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with the elderly population exhibiting dementias and other cognitive impairments
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
