PMFRC Employment Opportunity: Before and After School EducatorDepartment: Children’s Services TeamPosition: Before and After School EducatorContract Details: Part-Time Term ContractWork Schedule: 23.5 Hours per weekSplit Shifts 6:30am-9:00am/3:00pm-5:00pmSalary/Benefits: $17.45 RECE/$15.83 Non-ECE*6% Vacation added to each payLanguage Required: English Mandatory; French an assetThe RoleUnder the direction of the Childcare Service Head Educator, Educator will be responsible to support the delivery and facilitation of the day-to-day operations of the PMFRC Day Care / Nursery School programs as applicable. Duties may also include assisting with programs intended for facilitating children’s development (including social, emotional, physical and intellectual). The Educator must be creative, flexible, enthusiastic, and enjoy working with children. Direct interaction with the children in all areas of the program and its activities is required.ResponsibilitiesRegulatory (5%) Direct casual staff, volunteers and placement students in collaboration with the Head Educator.Administration (10%) Assist with maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation on all children (ELECT documents, Ministry checklist’s, health reports, behaviour logs, communication book, child’s daily chart, incident reports and attendance logs). Updating and reading the daily log book. Attend parent meetings as requested by families and Supervisor. Attend scheduled staff meeting.Programming (85%) Keep an up-to-date ELECT observation log of the students assigned by the Head Educator. Ensure program goals are being met. Ensure the delivery of a quality program that provides a positive educational environment to enhance the social, emotional physical and cognitive growth of each individual child within a specific age range. Assist in the monthly plans of each day’s activities based upon ELECT tracking and the developmental needs of the children. Ensure compliance with all provincial regulations and legislation under the Child Care and Early Years Act. Greet children and ensure they are signed in by the parents. Establish a positive relationship with the children and appreciate the differences and sensitivities of each child. Understand, recognize and support differing family lifestyles. Observe and identify needs; provide recommendations pertaining to the daily program and the development of the children. Prepare and serve snacks as well as prep work for lunch. Clean meal areas before and after the meal. Perform light housekeeping duties of (craft areas, daily laundry and ensuring cots are disinfected and linens are washed weekly or as needed). Evaluate the program on a regular basis. Ensure that the facility and all equipment and toys are kept in good repair and disinfected on a regular basis. Ensure that the Behavior Management and playground policies and procedures are followed through with consistently.Core Competencies and Behaviours Believes in, and practices the mission and goals of the PMFRC with a thorough understanding of Canadian Armed Forces communities. High degree of personal initiative and ability to work flexible hours. Sensitivity and tact in dealing with people and able to effectively collaborate with community partners. Exhibit characteristics of warmth, empathy, humour, and a non-judgmental philosophy of care and strong understanding and application of ethical principles. Able to be energetic, resilient and maintain a sense of humour when personal resources are challenged. Ease of working with IT tools (Office Suite, Internet, MS Teams, WebEx, and Zoom etc). Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well both independently and in a collaborative team environment.Qualifications and Experience Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent. Early Childhood Education diploma and membership with the College of Early Childhood Educators is considered an asset Recent experience in a licensed childcare setting is essential. Understanding of, and ability to apply “How Does Learning Happen†Ontarios Pedagogy for the Early Years as a professional learning opportunity. Familiarity with all legislation according to the Child Care and Early Years Act of Ontario to ensure complete compliance with respect to Ministry Standards.Special Conditions of EmploymentPhysical Effort – This position will spend a moderate level of physical exertion required. Usually can relax or vary body movement as needed (i.e. moving program supplies / equipment, moving furniture, lifting toddlers, walking on even surfaces, lifting up to 10 pounds).Technical Resources - Maintains files and uses a personal computer. This position must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. Assure discreet handling of all business documents.Psychological Environment – Staff may be required to cover other children’s services outlets should the need arise and may be required to participate in the delivery of “after hours childcare†on occasion. The position may require special hours including working evenings and weekends.Environmental Conditions - Comfortable environment in typically pleasant physical conditions with occasional exposure to minor conditions of difficulty. Typical conditions are such that no risk of injury or harmful effect is likely. At times, the environment is hectic and distractions are possible.Working Conditions Shall not either during the term of the employment contract, or any time thereafter, disclose to any person, unless required by law, any confidential information concerning patrons, clients, customers, volunteers, or other employees of the PMFRC, or the business affairs or the financial positions of the PMFRC. Adhere to the PMFRC Professional Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, Governance and Operational Policies, and the PMFRC Privacy Code. Ensure compliance with all Fire and Occupational Health and Safety regulations and ensure the priority of staff / client safety is paramount to the day to day operations of the PMFRC. Consider and alert to management any risk related issues within your departmental/program area. Attend all mandatory staff workshops, training, and program planning meetings to assist in creating a comprehensive overall MFRC program. Exchange information, ideas and assistance to enhance PMFRC programs and to solve challenges. Ability to provide a clear criminal record check, obtain an enhanced reliability security clearance, and vulnerable sector screening (current within 6 months). Valid Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle for work related travel and requisite driver’s insurance. Travel within the County of Renfrew. Assist in maintaining the organization and cleanliness of all common areas. Perform all other duties assigned by the Daycare Supervisor, Children’s Services Manager, or Executive Director. Ensure Executive Director is advised of any issues and trends that may impact the PMFRC.Establish Good Rapport With Other MFRC Staff and Volunteers Assist other staff members in coordinating and participating in various special events as required by the supervisor; Foster a positive relationship with co-workers and volunteers therefore respecting their commitment to PMFRC programs and activities; and Act as an ambassador by promoting a positive community image of the PMFRC.Work Remotely
