Job Description

Your Opportunity:Ponoka is a small town with easy access to Red Deer, Edmonton and Calgary. As a multi-site position you will have an opportunity to work in two facilities although the primary work location will be at Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre. Ponoka Hospital is an acute care facility with an active emergency department. Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury is a large mental health facility with an active brain injury rehabilitation department. The position includes days, weekends and home collections.Description:As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.Additional Required Qualifications:Recent, relevant experience performing procedures in a core laboratory. Laboratory experience includes urinalysis, specimen collection, preparation and referral. Recent cardiology experience including ECG and Holter Monitor The ability to effectively communicate in English. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and promote good teamwork. Demonstrated initiative, good judgment, and attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations. Ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy in dealing with patients, staff, and physicians. Practices effective infection control, and safety techniques as applicable. Proficient computer skills. Ability to adapt to many changes. Demonstrated desire and actions to further own knowledge relating to profession. Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and adapt to stressful situations using tact and diplomacy.
