Job Description

Your Opportunity:The Lead Hand role provides work assignments to all staff, including basic supervision, such as shift scheduling, vacation requests, and staff orientation. This position does not discipline or terminate staff. Direction is also given to Contractor personnel, as applicable, maintenance workers that may be assisting the work or function. Be able to communicate clearly in English, verbally and in writing. Be patient, customer service and team oriented. Be able to motivate and collaborate cooperatively with others across trades and departments. Be able to act alone without supervision. Demonstrate technical and operational problem-solving abilities and be mechanically inclined. Be able to provide direction and leadership for the team on initiatives and empower and enable the team to deliver. Communicates regularly with management and provide feedback to the team to ensure activities are consistent with department goals. Prioritizes work requisitions, both preventative and corrective (demand), keeping backlog at a minimum; work with management to set targets. Performs regular inspections on projects done by internal staff and outside contractors. Meet and liaison with internal customers, suppliers, vendors, contractors, etc. Reviews vacation requests to ensure adequate staffing during vacation periods to meet planned labor requirements. Confirms code compliance in assigned areas of responsibilities. Provides input into performance evaluations. Reviews shop drawings and ensures projects are completed to facility Construction Standards and Guidelines. Other duties as assigned by Manager. Ensures workshop and work area cleanliness, organization, and upkeep (minor repairs to shop equipment etc.) in line with 5S principles. Generates requisitions with management for tools and high value materials.Description:As a Lead Hand, you will be responsible for providing functional supervision to a moderately sized group of similar journeyperson trade staff. In addition to functional supervision, you will perform a wide variety of journeyperson level trade duties associated with maintaining, renovating, repairing and construction in accordance with AHS standards and practices. You will assign work of journeyperson and supervise staff and perform ongoing maintenance work in an area of assigned trade or related responsibility. In addition, you will provide health and safety training and orientation and ensure compliance.

Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Trade Certificate from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.Additional Required Qualifications:Have three years maintenance experience in a Hospital or Health Care setting. Have a 4th class Power Engineering designation. Be familiar with reading blueprints and schematics. Prior experience in supervising/managing a multi-trade team in a Lead hand or equivalent role.Preferred Qualifications:A trade designation would be an asset.Quick Apply
