Job Description

Your Opportunity:This position is responsible to the community and to Alberta Health Services to ensure effective care of people needing timely, compassionate and appropriate mental health services and commensurate with the vision and mandate of AHS. This position is the primary lead in the development and provision of outpatient mental health counselling within specific areas and clinics within the West Rural area of Central Zone. This position is responsible for finance management, site responsibilities, human resource management including recruitment, performance management, progressive discipline up to and including dismissal in consultation with Director and Human Resources. Accountable for budget forecasting and budget adherence for a multimillion dollar budget. This manager adapts organizational business and strategic plans and priorities to address operational and resource challenges. Oversees clinical and site supervision in the management of front line staff in the delivery of mental health services based on best and promising practices. The results obtained are primarily achieved through the work of subordinates.Description:Adaptation of zone initiatives/mandates for the purpose of local implementation. Leadership and Recruitment, retention, mentorship and coaching of clinical staff to ensure strategic plan delivery goals are achieved. This would include all clinical staff and the services aligned to the respective clinics assigned. Financial/contractual accountability. Quality Management & Accreditation. Community Leadership/accountability. Capacity Building. Financial Management. People Resource Management.

Required Qualifications:Advanced skills, knowledge and ability is required to lead and manage a diverse portfolio that includes cross ministerial and community involvement. Areas of knowledge are not limited to acumen of clinical aspects, and include business management, clinical business leadership, human resources, quality management, capacity building and accountability. In-depth working knowledge and experience in mental health/addiction and concurrent disorders, prevention and health promotion, and operational management functions such as leading, planning and evaluating units of work. Extensive experience in managing and leading others in order to achieve key operating results is also a major responsibility of this role. Members of regulatory bodies must maintain active registration i.e. ACSW, APA.Additional Required Qualifications:Knowledge required: Awareness and application of the Freedom of Information Act, The Health Information Act, AHS mission and value statements, policies and procedures, the business plan, the Zone Addiction and Mental Health Operating Plan, Work Place Health and Safety policies and the UNA and HSAA union agreements. Also must be knowledgeable of the Child and Family Enhancement Act, The Mental Health Act, Protection of Drug-Endangered Children’s Act and the Protection of Children Abusing Drugs Act, and CTO legislation.Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role. Experience in Addiction and Mental Health Community Based Services. Related graduate bachelor’s or master’s degree in a health discipline preferred.
