Your Opportunity:The Peer Support Worker (PSW) functions as a member of the AHS – Virtual Opioid Dependency Program and is an essential member of an inter-disciplinary, recovery orientated, health care treatment team. This position repots to the Manager of the Virtual Opioid Dependency Program. The focus of the Virtual Opioid Dependency Program is on harm reduction and supporting individuals who require Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT). The PSW provides supports that complements the work of Addiction & Mental Health clinicians by providing emotional and social support to individuals seeking services, who may share a common experience. Through their own lived experience(s) with addiction and/or mental illness(s), and experiences of recovery and resilience, the PSW can authentically inspire hope to clients by sharing your recovery story, offering mentorship and recovery support; advocating for client needs; and supporting an integrated and recovery-orientated treatment experience. The peers/service recipients recovery and personal life goals are central to the plan of treatment with the health care team. The PSW establishes responsive, culturally sensitive and consultative relationships that enable trust and healing among peoples of very diverse world views and approaches to health and healing. The PSW plays a pivotal role in care across the health service continuum, including providing and/or facilitating spiritual and cultural support, emotional, physical and mental wellness and education to diverse individuals seeking health care services.Description:As a Peer Support Worker, you will provide interventions and supports that are complementary to the work of a multi-disciplinary outreach team within Addiction & Mental Health. The team functions together to provide treatment, rehabilitation and support services for clients with addiction and/or mental illness. Through your own lived experience(s) with addiction and/or mental illness, and experiences of recovery and resilience, as the Peer Support Worker, you can authentically inspire hope to clients by sharing your recovery story, offering mentorship and recovery support; advocating for client needs; and supporting an integrated and recovery-oriented treatment experience.
