Qualifications:Essential:
  • Masters Degree with a primary focus in epidemiology. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of surveillance systems, statistics, and epidemiological methods
  • Ability to effectively communicate scientific and technical information and present clear and concise reports and correspondence
  • Knowledge of medical terminology relating to communicable diseases and Public Health.
  • Demonstrated expertise with manipulation and analysis of large administrative databases
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g. SAS or R)
  • Proficient at writing reports
  • Ability to facilitate knowledge transfer, including the training of students
  • Displays initiative and accepts new challenges and responsibilities to accommodate changes in the public health environment
  • Able to deal with sudden increases in workload such as those that occur during emerging public health threats, and multiple conflicting demands
  • Ability to translate public health and medical information clearly and concisely for non-technical audiences
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve conflict
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as contribute to a respectful workplace
Duties:Epidemiologists provide expert data management, statistical analyses, report writing and interpretation of surveillance, administrative and survey data to better understand the impact of communicable and non-communicable diseases on the population. They provide epidemiological support to PIMA, the Public Health Division of Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care, and the Department of Housing, Addictions and Homelessness, communicates scientific and technical information to both internal audiences as well as external stakeholders both through presentations as well as reports, provides expert scientific advice regarding enhancements to existing surveillance systems; monitoring of diseases and health indicators and the production of surveillance reports. They are also responsible to represent the interests of Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care as assigned, at local and national meetings in the area of epidemiologic/biostatistical analysis (including Federal, Provincial, and Territorial Committees).Apply to:Advertisement # 42713Talent Acquisition - Executive RecruitmentHuman Resource Services
