Job Description

For CUPE postings please refer to Article 9.01 (d) of the CUPE Collective Agreement to ensure you have met the eligibility requirements to apply to CUPE competitions.Employment Status Part Time Employment Type Fixed Term Job SummaryThe Access Facilitator will work closely with the Program Coordinator to ensure students’ needs are being met and facilitating appointments with the appropriate support services advisors and community resources as required. The Access Facilitator will schedule regular check-ins with students to determine if extra supports are needed and help students navigate their training and education plans to promote their success both in the program and during their transition into the workforce.Specific DutiesUnder the direction of the Supervisor, and in close consultation with the Program Coordinator, other College staff and community resource people, the incumbent will recommend, provide, and coordinate services to participants which will facilitate those clients’ access to post-secondary training / education / employment.

  • Provide coordination, liaison, and referral services which will promote and facilitate access to post-secondary education, training, and community resources:
  • Student entrance – assist Program Coordinator to coordinate participants entrance and intake/placement assessments, including orientation to the assessment process and preliminary identification of potential learning barriers;
  • Provides an initial assessment of the nature and extent of student concerns in order to respond appropriately by providing information, booking an advising appointment or referring student to appropriate college/community services, or arranging immediate assistance for crisis situations;
  • Provide/facilitate access to CNC support services to promote student success; schedule and arrange appointments with counsellor, Aboriginal Advisors and other CNC support service staff, following up as required;
  • Information outreach – liaise with groups and individuals to obtain and provide training/education information and academic advising;
  • Employment / education planning – assist with goal-setting, scheduling, and obtaining career information on an individual and small group basis.
  • Provide coordination, liaison, and services which will promote and facilitate the success of participants:
  • Services liaison – provide liaison and advocacy services to facilitate access to community services;
  • Program individualization – in collaboration with Program Coordinator, assist with individual training plans and/or educational plans and when required, appropriate referrals.
  • Provide coordination, liaison, and services which will assist participants in their transition to the workforce:
  • Employment preparation – in collaboration with the Program Coordinator, coordinate, assist with, and promote services which provide participants with orientation to workplace based skills and behaviours.
  • Must be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners and communities.
  • You will promote a positive work atmosphere and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Completion of post-secondary education in a relevant discipline
  • 3 to 5 years relevant experience in adult education and training, and in working with clients in transition; or equivalent education and relevant experience
  • Knowledge of post-secondary training and education programs, and community resources;
  • Good rapport and familiarity with community and post-secondary resources;
  • Excellent, demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Computer skills, including accurate word processing, database and spreadsheet programs;
  • Understanding of and empathy with training barriers which face participants;
  • Ability to work both independently and as a strong team member.
