This position provides support, set-up and repair of computer software/hardware and related technology in a networked environment. This position provides an opportunity for individuals with some prior experience and recently completing a Computer Information Systems, Electronic Technology/Technician diploma or related field of education to join the ITS teamSpecific Duties

  • Provide technical support to users, in particular for computer hardware, software and networks
  • Independently receive, diagnose and respond to incoming Service Desk requests via phone, email and create, track and update incident records
  • Install and update of computer software (both operating system and program products) for stand-alone as well as network workstations
  • Assist with communications technology such as VOIP phones, mobility support and telepresence support.
  • Make decisions related to the security and availability of desktop services
  • Ensure all video-conference equipment is ready for scheduled events and troubleshoot connectivity as required
  • Multi-task, prioritize, have excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and work independently
  • Generate and maintains knowledgebase, documentation for solutions and procedures.
  • Responsible for Computer Lab & Office configurations and maintenance, including testing software and coordinating changes with Departments throughout the college.
  • Assist with conducting and maintaining inventory of hardware and software in conjunction with other members of department
  • Maintain classroom technology and support ongoing improvements
  • Participate in testing of new and upgraded hardware and software, document alternatives and provide recommendations for updated or improved services.
  • Contact software vendors for extended or additional technical support as needed.
  • Assist in the setup, maintenance and operation of networks and data communications networks
  • Repair computer hardware within limits of facilities provided
  • Install, set up and maintain Desktops/Laptops, peripheral equipment and networks
  • Install, set up, and maintain network wiring and network switch hardware
  • Respond to user requests for software and hardware support
  • Assist other members of the Computer Services department as appropriate
  • Other job related duties as assigned by the CIO or designate.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Completion of a diploma program in Information Technology or for Electronic Technologist/Technician or for Computer Information Systems or other related discipline
  • An equivalent combination of relevant technical experience exceeding 1 year
  • Training and/or experience in desk side support
  • Knowledge of VOIP phones, audio-visual equipment and video conference technology an asset
  • Basic knowledge of current computer software/hardware, peripheral and network hardware
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
