MCAD’s main focuses are: ensuring safe and environmentally responsible mineral exploration, mine development and closure; providing timely permitting decisions; promoting BC’s many mineral opportunities and fostering a positive and supportive environment for staff; implementing the Premier’s Jobs Plan commitments and contributing to the achievement of the Province’s social, economic and environmental goals.The Inspector of Mines-Permitting positions are found in each of the five regional offices in Victoria, Prince George, Kamloops, Cranbrook and Smithers.The Inspector of Mines-Permitting is responsible for the review and issuance of permits and authorizations for all exploration and small mines in the region under the authority of the Mines Act. This position inspects mines to monitor compliance of mining and reclamation activity, participates in, provides technical expertise and determines appropriate accommodation measures as necessary during consultation with First Nations, contributes to managing consultation processes with other agencies, assesses environmental risk and sets reclamation bonds. The Inspector of Mines, permitting works with internal and cross-agency teams and with First Nations to deliver on government’s reconciliation commitments.Prince George is a mid-sized city of about 75,000 people that serves as the hub of central British Columbia.   • Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline from an accredited institution, and minimum three years’ current experience related to mineral exploration or mining operations. OR,
  • Diploma in Mining Technology, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline from an accredited institution and minimum five years’ current experience related to mineral exploration or mining operations. OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
**Note: Experience in mining operations includes working in a professional or technical capacity on functioning mine sites for a broad range of mining activities including exploration, access construction, mining methods and/or mine reclamation, and/or relevant provincial/federal experience in a natural resource regulatory compliance role.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Experience in First Nations’ consultation or engagement.
  • Experience in a mining regulatory compliance role.
  • Experience in mine reclamation activities.
  • Experience in gravel mining operations and/or gravel mine design.
