Job Description

The PositionUnder the direct supervision of the President and the functional backup and guidance of the VP Operations and of the Manager, Vessel Operations & SHEQ, the Regional Business Manager contributes to company’s growth by providing leadership and managing day to day operations at our Northern locations (Prince Rupert, Kitimat, Stewart, etc.) guaranteeing the provision of services to our clients while ensuring vessels compliance and crewing according to regulatory, commercial and corporate expectations and requirements.Some of the Job functions for this role will be:

  • Engages with local stakeholders by keeping an active social profile within the community, including clients, suppliers, local businesses, authorities, Indigenous Bands, etc. to guarantee business engagement, promote our business position and contribute with social and commercial growth.
  • Supports projects by providing local intelligence and resources to promote Business Development and Commercial activities, aid with negotiation and guide conversations.
  • Follows up on contractual obligations with clients by keeping open communications with Dispatch and Commercial Departments to verify that jobs, invoicing and other contract conditions are met, promoting adequate customer services and reliability, solidifying our position in the region.
  • With the backup of the Vessel Operations Superintendents (Port Captains) directs the day-to-day operations in the norther location by following up with maintenance support, supply chain, HR, Labour relations, SHEQ and compliance to guarantee operational reliability of the vessels, operational availability of the employees and promote a positive work-place culture.
  • With the backup of the SHEQ Department, plans and directs continuous SHEQ improvements to ensure regulatory guidelines are followed and adherence to safety standards becomes part of our daily safety culture.
  • With the guidance of the Vessel Operations Superintendents provides HR and labour relations guidance to unionized and non-unionized employees to promote a mental and physical safe work environment, promote employee engagement and facilitate recruitment and onboarding processes.
  • Provides on scene incident commanding actions to support management on emergency situations.

Utilization of technology and other tools to facilitate the work.Thought - Problem Solving: Analyzing information, using intuition and business acumen to verify facts, interpretation of information to propose solutions, promotes innovation.Cultural Awareness & Emotional Resilience: Working towards developing depth knowledge and understanding of a diverse workforce, conflicting personalities and how best utilize empathy and teamwork to create an environment of inclusion and mutual respect.And possess the following minimum requirements:
  • A Bachelor of any of the following disciplines: Commerce or Economics, Industrial Engineering, Commercial Engineering, Business Administration, Logistics and Transportation.
  • A combination of the minimum educational requirements and five years of progressively related work experience or higher educational achievement plus 7 years in the maritime industry with progressively related work experience.
  • At least two years experience with a unionized work force will be an asset.
  • Good knowledge of computer programs, including Excel, Microsoft Office and Video Conferencing Software. Knowledge of ABS and maritime related software will be an asset.
  • Must possess a valid B.C. Drivers license
  • Must be legally allowed to work in Canada.
  • This position is based in Prince Rupert.
