Job Description

Department: Recreation and Community ServicesClosing: Until FilledHours: 4-8 hours per week; Sunday-SaturdayTerm: Seasonal (ice season)Pay Rate: $22.70Union/Exempt: CUPE Local 105Experience the wonder of living in the gorgeous setting of BC’s northwest coast. Affordable housing, ocean views and all the amenities for quality living are at hand.Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, Skate Patrollers are reliable, energetic, self-motivated individuals, whostrive to deliver exceptional customer service while ensuring the safety of all participants involved in our skatingprograms. The successful candidate must effectively communicate with the general public and possess goodconflict and risk management skills.QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Aptitude in customer service – the successful candidate will focus on improving guest experience
and managing conflict resolution
  • Responsibility – the incumbent must ensure the safety of all those participating in skating
programs
  • Critical and creative thinking – the successful applicant can think systematically and explore
possible solutions to problems in an innovative way
  • Time management – the successful candidate can establish priorities to meet deadlines in order
to carry out multiple tasks at the same timeDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise ice arena and all patrons during Public Skating times to ensure a fun but safe
recreational experience
  • Enforce ice safety rules
  • Engage with patrons in a positive manor
  • Perform first aid when required
  • Report incidents accurately and ensure first aid/incident forms are complete
  • Complete light maintenance duties as assigned
  • Set up and take down equipment for skating programs
  • Assist Ice Maker with skate rentals
  • Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION:
  • Proficient ice skater
  • Grade 12 or GED
  • WHMIS Certification
  • Standard First Aid, CPR-C, AED
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Preform basic ice skating techniques
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to follow safe work practices and procedures
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a clean Criminal Record Check
FITNESS REQUIREMENT:
  • Manual dexterity
  • An acceptable level of fitness is required to complete the obligations of the job posting
