The ministry’s Strategic Management Branch is seeking a highly motivated, strategic, and innovative Planning Consultant to drive the ministry’s strategic planning initiatives forward. This position develops and monitors a ministry-wide comprehensive planning and performance management system. This system enables ministry leaders to establish strategy, provide good governance, and enhance accountability for ministry investments. Primary position accountabilities include leading the development of planning inputs, the development of the ministry’s four-year strategic and annual business plans, and the development of monitoring and reporting mechanisms like the annual report. These activities establish and monitor the ministry’s strategic direction and progress within the Government’s Planning and Accountability Management System. The position requires strong interpersonal communication skills to collaborate with colleagues at all levels throughout the ministry. As a member of the Policy and Planning unit, the Planning Consultant works in partnership with division planning teams; provides guidance, direction, and support to staff on planning activities; and communicates progress to senior officials. The position requires a values-based candidate who will apply proactive leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills, and a strong strategic orientation. Strong facilitation skills are essential to plan and lead discussions and planning sessions with the ministry’s senior leadership. Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be obtained through the completion of a degree or post-graduate degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, or a social science discipline, and several years of related professional experience.
