Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Food Services Manager to support our Food Services team.Position SummaryAs The Manager of Food Services plans, organizes, directs and controls the activities of food and nutrition services, diet order processing, department software and interfaces, inventory management, procurement and food distribution. They provide day-to-day leadership and direction to Food Services Supervisors, Diet Technicians, Diet Clerks and Production staffResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensures food services efforts are in keeping with the Hospital’s mission and vision.
  • Ensures the departmental policy and procedure manual is consistent with current practice and reflects professional / technical standards.
  • Develops and implements quality improvement initiatives for Food Services.
  • Monitors and manages risk, health and safety issues, and ensures infection control standards are adhered to.
  • Monitors satisfaction of service. Leverages patient feedback to make service improvements.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, promotes, disciplines and terminates direct reports.
  • Manages employee relation issues, promoting teamwork where staff can interact productively and efficiently.
  • Ensures staff have required competencies and assists in identifying learning and development needs.
  • Develops, implements and communicates performance measures, conducts regular performance appraisals of direct reports, providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Ensures the acceptability of food product to meet nutritional standards.
  • Ensures the timely delivery of all food products for patient care.
  • Make decisions impacting the quality of food products and services; including menu determinations.
  • Communicates with unit leadership and clinical staff regarding meal service, menus, bulk nourishments, and specific patient issues regarding meal service.
  • Represents the department to other disciplines and professional colleagues through participation in internal and external committees and professional associations.
  • Communicates/consults with the Public Health Department regarding food/equipment/process safety issues and health inspections.
  • Communicates and consults with suppliers and vendors regarding quality issues and pricing.
  • Performing other duties related to the position as required.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in Nutrition/Dietetics.
  • Regulated Health Professional, registered with College of Dietitians of Ontario, preferred.
  • Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) certificate, preferred.
  • Five years previous experience in Food Service management or supervisor experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of CBORD’s hospital nutrition software preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Current with nutrition topics and issues.
  • Problem Solving/Decision Making – Demonstrates the ability to quickly understand complex issues and considers a broad range of relevant information and ideas to identify alternatives.
  • Innovation and Change – Recognizes opportunities to continuously improve processes and develops alternatives.

  • Planning and Organization – Establishes efficient, realistic strategies and action steps to achieve objectives and manages processes for effective, efficient service delivery.
  • Team Work – Actively participates in cross functional teams to achieve results and supports team members in achieving objectives and necessary resources.
  • Leadership – Motivates, coaches and manages performance effectively and demonstrates a results orientation to achieve department and organizational objectives.
